Time to loose the Jointer

LabLover, what does your mill charge for shop time?

Mine charges $65/hr for straight lining, planing, sanding, etc. and $85/hr for the $60000 molder that does everything.

I have no room for jointer or planer so this is ideal for me, Eric

eric,

how much would it cost you to buy the wood S2S stright lined rip?

Does your suppliers  wood that way?

They will do whatever i want. The shop labor totals are always totally reasonable. They also have way nicer machines then i would ever have in a home garage shop. The dude who works there is real fast. I build immediately upon delivery to the house, never had a problem. Eric

My supplier has various options of common species in stock. S2S , S2S straight lined ripped, S4S, etc.

He charges differently per the Bd ft of course. So When I need to buy lumber I have my choice and figure it in the bid.

Works out best for me. Thats why Im serious;i considering selling my jointer.

Of course Im not a production shop.

Just a one man operation.

Factor that in the equation  and it makes sense to me not to own a fullsize jointer. The 850 with the stand should do all I need a jointer to do.

Kinda like a drum sander. I dont own one, but I needed one I would go to a local cabinet shop and rent time to use theirs.

All I would need is about a 1/2 hr of time and I could sand and entire kitchen, doors, drawer fronts and face frames.

No need to spend the money to buy one or use up shop space to keep one on hand.
