Torsion Box Planer Sled Issue-Please Help!

Do you have a picture of your sled?  Sounds very interesting with these changes.

I'd love to see what the sled looks like as well. Sounds cool.

I haven't used my sled a whole lot but it does work really well. It is a little heavy but it doesn't bother me too much.

I hope this demonstrates it well.  This was my second sled as I followed the first to the letter but wanted to modify the second.  I did not curve out the undersides of the leveler bars but thus far it did not significantly affect its functionality but I am considering it.  One of the best parts of this setup is that you do not need to epoxy in the bolt into the slide block effectively allowing you to break if down if you want to modify it at all.

I also dadoed out the underside of the sliding block because despite my best effort I had a small (less than 1/32") elevation in my T-track.

The only reason I remade the initial sled was to exchange the hand wheels.  The rest of the modifications were just things I figured I'd try since I was already making a new one.

Apologies if this is a repeat post, it seemed the first did not go through

Cool idea and nice work! I also did not use epoxy. The bolts for my leveling bars go straight into a t-nut in the 8020 extrusions. I made my leveling bars fixed instead of making them so they slide around. I have enough of them so the boards still get support for whatever length they are.

Here are some photos of the completed sled. You will notice I added a center leveling foot to each leveling bar to help give support to the middle of an extremely cupped board if necessary.

I'm sorry to dig up an old thread. Hoping edwarmr can answer a couple of questions about the sled made out of aluminum extrusions:
[list type=decimal]
[*]How has this setup proved in the long run? Are you happy with its performance?
[*]Can you please confirm what size aluminum extrusions you used? In your first pic it appears to be a rectangular profile, but in subsequent pics they appear square. Hoping you can confirm what size you used as I'm looking to replicate this.

Thank you!

Hello [member=82903]peter_buyers[/member]

I don’t currently have the sled because I didn’t have the space for it. I used it for awhile though. Overall the sled worked good. The one big change I would have made would be making the supports adjustable along the length of the sled. The way I made it they were at fixed distances every foot or so. And the extrusion is square. 1.5” square so that would be 15 series aluminum extrusion. Let me know if you have any other questions.

I appreciate you responding so quickly, and good to hear that it performed well for you. Great idea re: making the supports adjustable along the length. I'll definitely give that some thought.

Cheers
