Track Saw used in conjunction with Festool vaccum with poor collection results

I have been using the TS 75 track saw and FS 1900 guide rail to build some some tall cabinets.  I also have the CT 48 HEPA dust collection system and had it attached to the saw.

I do not yet have a Festool work table, nor have I constructed the Ron Paulk table or something similar.  I was simply using saw horses with 2x4's and a 3/4 in OSB sacrificial table top to do my track saw cutting on.

I love the saw and the track system and the vacuum seems to be well thought out as well.  I have a question though.

I was under the impression that this system would collect well over 90 percent of the dust created by cuts with the saw and vacuum running.  I still noticed quite a bit of dust generated on the table.  The bag in the vacuum was seated properly so that was not the problem.

Is this typical or am I missing something in my set up?

Hello and welcome!

When I first started using my TS55 and Ctmidi I had the same issue.  I had to turn the suction knob from turtle to rabbit to increase the suction.

This helped me out a lot.  The other thing I have done was cover the blade window with a piece of blue painters tape.

First thing I would do is check your setting.

Also, both the TS75 and TS55 work so much better with a 36mm AS hose.

The larger hose increases the volume of dust collection. Another benefit is that the 36mm AS hose is far less likely to be held up by the track.

In an ideal situation to improve dust extraction, use a sacrificial surface, and place scrap at the end of the cut, to prevent dust escaping from the end of the cut. Use a wide enough piece of scrap that you can clear the work and still stop the saw before it cuts beyond the scrap.

There is a accessory for covering the open side of the TS55 which helps dust extraction.

Thank you for your suggestion with the bigger hose.  Also with covering the blade housing opening with tape or the Festool attachment.

I am pretty sure I had the vacuum set to its highest suction setting but I will double check tomorrow.

Thanks for your input.

Here's something to try, take the hose off and make a few cuts.  You'll be surprised at just how much dust is produced and you'll likely see that your saw had been collecting nearly 90%.

I had the same issue with my TS75 untill someone here pointed me towards the larger 36mm hose, and it made all the diffrence.

I am having the same issue. Tried all the same things. I think I will just have to buy the 36mm hose. I guess that's the problem with buying tools, it just leads to having to buy more tools.  I know the slope is slippery but it feels more like jumping off a cliff  [scared]

2 cents of common sense, but I got caught a few times !! Better make sure the dust bag inside the vac isn't too full, since air flow can be quite reduced if so.

You'll note, too, that if you're doing edge trimming, there will be more visible sawdust spread around than when you're cutting more than ~ an inch from the edge of the board.  And using the 36mm hose is a huge improvement.

A 36mm hose works better, but not as dramatically as it does on the Kapex. Whith a 27mm you should get good results.
The dc only works when the blade is enclosed in wood, if your just taking off a few mm of wood on the side of a panel then your getting allot of dust, no way around that.
Other things to take in account, vac on full, bag not too full and sharp blade.
