Hi all,
I am just about to take the plunge and buy my first Festool, just had to stop myself pushing the button to check. I am looking to buy the TS55R with Midi extractor. One of the TS55R's main jobs will be trimming 44mm Fire doors. The Festool literature states that the TS55R has a cutting depth of 55mm, so it should have no problem trimming the doors. However i did read somewhere (can't remember where) that the guide rail raises the saw off the material to be cut, so you won't get 55mm depth of cut and thus it won't cut a 44mm door in one go. Is this some internet scare mongering?
Surely Festool took the guide rail into consideration when publishing the specs but i don't want to spend a lot of money on a saw that won't be able to do one of it's main jobs. Had a search on here and google but can't find anything definite.
Could anybody confirm if the TS55R will trim 44mm fire doors whilst on the guide rail?
Thanks Ben.

TheSaint,

You'll get the usual advice of using a rip blade with less teeth.
But in my experience you're simply better of getting a TS75 or if you don't want such a large saw, get yourself a Makita, Bosch or Mafell. They're more powerful and will perform much better than the TS55 for your intended useage.

I was also going to suggest that other thread.  To answer your other question, the 55mm depth of cut is off the rail.  Converting the max depth of cut on the rail is a hair over 49 mm.

Peter

Thanks for the replies. The saw will have to perform a lot of jobs, just that fire doors will feature heavily in it's early life. I saw the other threat but that seemed to be focused on the blade. The question really is, do you still get 55mm depth of cut when the saw is on the guide?

Thanks for the confirmation. So it should have no problem depth wise cutting a 44mm door.

No problem at all - I've done it many times...

me too, but for heavy usage  I take a 75 but the 55 is brilliant and not as heavy although weight is not an issue when on the guide rail, do you have the £50 voucher ? as that will help out .

Thanks for the replies. Haven't got a £50 voucher. Waited a few weeks to get one on eBay buy they were going for £27+ by the time i paid for recorded delivery to the shop i would be saving around £18, so it wasn't worth it. Hopefully Festool will send me some next year.

BEN have you made the purchase as vouchers are out there for free not ebay sellers, send me a pm and I will try and ask around for vouchers you could save £100 .

Hi Green fever,
PM sent. My first post on here was asking about the vouchers but it seemed like everybody was asking for them and who am i on here? I did speak to one of the dealers but he said he couldn't give them out. He gave me the number of Festool marketing and said that if i spoke to them nicely they might send some out. I gave them a ring and explained that i was planning on making my first Festool purchase of a TS55R and a Midi extractor and it would be nice if i could get a £50 voucher. He wasn't really interested and said that he couldn't help as they had all been sent out. Probably doesn't help with all the people selling them on eBay and the people buying them. Festool might of well sent everybody a £20 note. Oh PM sent.
Ben.

Great saw I use it with the midi for trimming doors all the time
For fire doors I got the universal blade

How long are they giving those vouchers out for?

Im heading over there inna month.

Wanna score a couple of items

Festool sent out over 40,000 of them in March. They're redeemable on purchases of tools from 26/03/2013 to 31/05/2013, so you might be out of luck.

hey sancho you may be outta luck as garry said but you could still save money here and huntingdon is on my doorstep so let me know when you are over and i shall try & hook you up , green .

Thats one of the main jobs that mine has been doing for the last year or so.
Chipboard core and solid wood core both fine just make sure you use the correct sharp blade.
The panther blade gives a great rip cut finished edging 4 door blanks this morning.

See if they will swap the two FS-1400/2 rails for two FS-1400/2-LR32 rails. The cost difference is negligible, but the functionality should you ever (or, more likely, when you) buy a Festool router and the LR32 kit is immense.

I paid £27 more to swap mine; well worth it.
