Ts55r shocks from tool and guide rail

Is everyone cutting oak veneered MDF this week? - I am.

Those oak book shelves look pretty good - are the shelves MDF and if so what width are they?

I have had veneered MDF deform with the weight of books and now keep the shelf lengths quite short or use a two sided shelf with longitudinal ribs for stiffness.

Yes Peter the shelves are oak veneered mdf. Width 760mm and depth 190mm. Construction using solid lipping. All shelves are glued and mechanically fixed - 2 dominos and 2 spax 50mm mdf screws in each end and two spax screws through the 19mm back into the shelf. Hopefully this will be enough to prevent too much sagging.

BTW, the spax mdf screws are superb if you've not used them.

Mdf on its own is terible for shelfing.
 
Same thing here. With my TS75 I’m getting blue arches strong enough to kill a small animal.  [scared] They are clearly static and not circuit problems. These sparks sometimes span 10 cm. They are coming from the hose (not antistatic), which is suspended, mostly from the section closer to the saw. When the hose is lying on the ground it is much less of a problem for obvious reason. The static is worse on longer cuts because it is allowed to build up as the dust streams through the hose.

Strangely, this does not happen with other tools (router and another saw). Recently I was flattening a large slab with router and exactly the same dust extraction setup (same slab, same bench, and same humidity for that matter). This generated massive amount of dust, but barely any static. Switch to TS75 and here go the fireworks.

I’ll either run a conductive strip along the hose or get antistatic one.
 
An update here guys I got a saw on loan from my supplier while my own saw was sent to festool the loan saw gives no shocks from either rail or saw in exact same working conditions.i got a call today saying a part has been ordered from Germany to fix my saw and it should be back in a couple of days :) glad it's getting fixed

That's great they found the cause.  When your saw returns, please let us know what part/parts were replaced.

Sorry been working away got the saw back a whole ago festool fitted a new armature ( hope I've spelled right ) no more shocks problem all sorted happy days :)
 
Back on again guys got the saw back in October and its been great but last week it started happening again got the festool rep coming to site to see it in action. Went out and bought a ctl midi and it still does it with extractor attached. It doesn't shock you when saw runs on its own or from running the saw along the rails with the saw not spinning only when cutting mdf boards ??? Will let you all know what's said by the rep

Hmmm, well MDF does generate  a lot of fine dust , and thus probably more friction and static charge. Shouldn't shock you anyway though.

The rep phoned me on  Friday and he said he was coming to site tomorrow in Kilmarnock will see if he comes haha he's in for a shock lol
 
Cheers I have been waiting a few weeks now for a phone call got the usual excuses from TTS that the rep was on holiday and he would phone me within 24-48 hours I'm  still waiting. He was supposed to visit me in February I'm still waiting lol time to get back on to Festool. Fed up with dealing with idiots now time to ask for a manager doubt it will get me anywhere as they don't seem to care. Gonna try the Festool international site and contact them from there hopefully get it sorted eventually after all they have had it in for repair twice now. Hope I don't have any issues with my other Festool products as I really can't be bothered dealing with a company that doesn't care.
 
Festool rep came to site yesterday to see the problem he rAn a lenght of mdf and his finger visibly jolted back when he touched the casing then he said he felt "something" at least he's seen it happening so the saw is away to festool again and the demo saw is back Although I'd be aswell putting the blade in back to front might be sharper lol will update when I find out what's happening
 
Well ive upgraded to the ts55r from my tired old ts75.

Been using it a week or so fine but today ive cut a load of mdf and holy fu..... Ouch. Odd tingle here and there i can deal with but sometimes is quite a bit more that that.
 
Dean it's the dust port on the saw. I had mine changed on site by festool last year and not had any shocks since. Apparently they had a batch of them where the graphite content in the plastic was too low. This made them less conductive
