TSO parallel guide calibration rod question

I've got an original v1 TPG 50 complete that I ordered way back in May of 2019 that I am finally getting out and starting to use. I'm doing the calibration and find that the rod moves a lot when I tighten down the screw that holds it. It either retracts or extends depending on which of the flag stops I am calibrating (left hand/right hand, but that's obviously just because the stop is flipped around). I am sure that I am going to get close enough but it feels like I need an extra hand to hold the combination square flush to the cut line, the calibration rod in place, and then tighten down the screw on the stop.

Does anyone have a top secret way to do that or am I messing something up? I suppose I could clamp the square in place but I was trying to do it on the floor where I do my cutting and it just seems so awkward. The whole setup is so nice that it's nuts to me that tightening the screw that secures the rod causes the rod to move.

Thanks, Hans. I went back to do it again and shifted things around a bit and found I could hold them in place better. I'm probably going to place a [member=61691]TSO_Products[/member]  order to get the upgrade for the stops as it is and I bet being able to tighten the collar first would make it easier for me as well.
