Using 8mm shank bits in non-Festool routers

To get the most use out of the 8mm bits, make sure they'll work in
your table-mounted router too. I have an 8mm collet for my table-mounted Porter-Cable
7539, and they are available for Bosch routers also.

Complete collets are probably more accurate than some sort of adapter.

Check with the service people for whatever router you're considering.

  I agree t hat good routers will have available an 8mm collet. But I dont share the idea that dapters are bad. THere is a trick to using any adapter. 1) insert it into the larger collet first and pull it out about 1/4". 2) Make sure the splits line up with the splits of the collet. 3) Add the 8mm bit until it is 3/4 into the adpater. Tighten but do not over tighten.
