I bought the laminate trimmer and intended to use it as small router as well a laminate trimmer until I mounted a bit in it last week and found you can not see the bit the base is solid.  I know there are guides on the base but that does not help me trying to follow lines in small areas.  Is there another base I am missing I got the big kit?  Should I go out a get a bosh cult for a small router?

That's why I didn't get it - I love the small size of it, and don't need it for heavy-duty jobs. I'll end up with the 1010 eventually, although I wish it had as an accessory the same sensor bearing guide the MFK 700 has.

I had the MFK and returned it in favor of the 1010 with edging plate. while the edging plate is a bit small making it a little awkward when starting the edging on the end of a board I still prefer it to the MFK.

When edging with the 1010 the base of the router is the sensor so the bit stays perpendicular to the cut path. I find that setting and adjusting the depth of cut is as easy and accurate as the MFK. Edging with the 1010 is also much more versatile since there isnt that shallow depth of cut restriction.
