Using Lr32 system on 2400mm boards

Hi,
Hope I'm in the correct place to post this.
I would like to use the LR32 system to make shelf holes in a 2400mm long board. I only have a 1400mm  lr32 guide, can it be easily done. I know you can purchase a 2400 guide but would not use it as much.

A few options:

- extend the LR32 rail with a non-holey rail if you have one
- clamp the LR32 rail on one end underneath using Festool clamps after using the two alignment guides to offset from the edge of your piece.  Since you will be in the middle of the board on the other end, route a dado across a piece of stock that can be clamped from the edge of your piece with the dado overlaying the T-slot of your guide rail.  This would hold the 'free' end of the piece.  After drilling your first set of holes, slide the piece down and repeat from the other end but still clamping in the middle with the dado'ed hold down.
- use double stick tape under the free end of the guide rail to hold it in place

I know the FS2424 may see expensive, but it will make the job easy and take away the error potential you'll risk. Buy, then Ebay it after the job maybe if you know you're finished with 2400 high.

I have a 2424 .. two 1400's joined would be cheaper - you just need to ensure the pair are aligned and the holes correctly spaced at the join.

Get a set of non-Festool parallel guides and you can easily move the guide rail along the full length of any board. Use the router stationary cutter to index the hole on the new position.

I use 2 1400 holy rails. Is you look at the end stops for the LR 32 they have a = mark in the Center of it. The reason is to connect the 2 rails. Put the = in the Center of the gap between the 2 rails and it will maintain the  32mm spacing between the 2 rails.

You can index off of the top and the bottom of the board. Go halfway from the bottom, flip the rail and then continue from the top down

Jobsworth. Have brought 2 of the 1400 holy rails. Question if you use the end stops to join the two rails did you purchase extra end stops to do this as I only have 2 end stops.

Oh you only need 2 end stops.

Use one to set the gap between the rails.

Do you have the rail connectors?

You put the rail connectors in the rail loosely, use one end stop set adj the gap between the 2 rails so the equal sign is centre on the gap.That sets your 32mm gap so you keep it ,

tighten the rail connectors to maintain the gap. move the end stop back to the end of the rail.

Works like a champ. Does this make it clearer on the technique??
