Hi all new to festool and was talked into an "old" pin Domino. Used it for some built ins and loved it. Now onto some drawers with 1/2 inch Baltic Birch  and playing with new 4mm bit.  Should I use just layout lines for sides as I might be missing something on height setting for 1/2 inch material. Any one else using the 4mm bits? And is it simply jig time for 1/2 material.

Hi FNT,

I've just finished a run of 4mm dominos into 12mm timber for a box top.
If you pull the cutter preset height adjustment right back, with the fence fully up, then release the cutter height lever and let the height down as low as it will go, you will have approx a 6mm center. You can then release the fence for whatever angle you need.
Then set the cutter depth of cut to 20mm, thus ensuring you make a 10mm mortise with the 4mm cutter.  Make sure you either have the workpiece over the edge of your bench, or sit it on another piece of timber to ensure you register using the fence and not the bench. And she's apples! :) Cut away to your hearts content.

I moved the height gauge all the way back as suggested. The height adjustment was all the way up and then lowered nicely all while the angle plate was at zero degrees. The problem I have is when the angle plate is moved down or forward, at 70 degrees the tabs of the angle plate force the height gauge up when they hit the body underneath?

Thank you for your time and suggestions

Not sure if this is what you're referring to, but this might help, Domino with thin material

The fence adjustment height will NOT go low enough to place a 4mm domino in 1/2" material.  My machine is brand new.  I'm using a 4mm cutter.  The supplemental manual touts making drawers with 1/2" material but I can't figure out how!

The Domino does not have to go in the middle of the material.

I was using the 5 mm cutter in 1/2" material long before the 4 mm came to market. Eventually, I did remove adjustable fence and machined a 30-35 (if I recall correctly) thousandths from the area that stops the fence from dropping. I can now use the pin model Domino to center in 1/2" material. Justin, who owns a Domino borrowed my pin Domino to rebuild some drawers, he knew mine had been modified.
