vac hose adapter retachment

The adapter that connects the standard Festool vacuum hose to a sander became detached from the hose.  It looks like you have two clips on opposite sides of this adapter that need to be pushed in with a screw driver, and then the vacuum hose could be reinserted into the adapter, however, I am having no  luck.  Is this the correct technique or should I go in a different direction.

Inside the adapter there's a threaded ring. Just stick your finger in the front to keep that ring in place and screw it back on the hose. No need to take it apart.
