Walko Workbench DRAW sign up (ON HOLD)

Nick,

I agree with Stoolman.  The bulk of the people have already paid into the drawing.  Just make an announcement that the forum chooses to separate itself from the drawing at this time.  Give your web address.  On your site announce a new deadline.  Everyone thats going to hear about it already has by reading this post for some time.  Latecomers can then donate to the drawing up to the deadline on your site.  Then have the drawing in a week or so or whatever deadline you decide.

Then complete the drawing and send it out.  If there is any money left over, make a contribution to the Forum in Henri's behalf.

This is all up to Henrik not me. As for everyone already having entered, that is doubtful. The entries never slowed down and I think I even got 6 or 7 after it was officially placed on hold. At this point I think the entries could double if continued here, on my page I set up there is no way anyone would ever know about the drawing at all.

Again this is for Henrik to decide not me.

I have a link to pay that is a page hosted by my site that no one can get to unless they link through the FOG. So really it is not on my site and I do not want a Festool or Walko give away on my site. I will keep the page as it is now, but will not put it on my main web site. This has nothing to do with my clients or business this my hobby.

The payment page is still where it has been, I guess I can add a list there or more info, but deleting this thread and putting everything there is totally not what the point of this entire thing was for. So if Henrik declines I totally understand.

Money that is left over I think I am just one daying it to Henrik as I really think it is his to give away or keep as he sees fit.

If one of the dealers wants to continue it on their site I would gladly forward them the list of names and all the money in one fell swoop which makes it simple for me. That makes more sense they are Festool and Walko related sites. One dealer is already collecting checks maybe I should see if he would just take over at this point.

Don't keep it open.  Close down entries now, announce drawing will be held on a determined date,  then delete this thread and announce winner on your website.  You can post a link to the youtube drawing there.

Once again I will state Henrik's entire premise  was for this to be on the forum, not deleted off the forum.

Oh well, on Tuesday Henrik will tell me what to do and who to set up shipping for if he decides to draw a winner. That is as far as I really am involved.

In short, I will give refunds or help set up the shipping to a winner or hand off the list and money to someone else that wants to take over.

To just stop it is totally wrong in my opinion. 30 days means 30 days, not 14 days or 20 days.

Lawyers are really scary. Look what any mention of them can do to a great idea (the Walko drawing).

And we elect them to run our country into the ground for us. They seem to be doing a bang up job.

Well, I am living in Connecticut, and our lawyers are worse than yours!

Charles

i am in s cal and our attorneys way worse than yours and we have a density that outstrips any place you deem to think. not only that ,ours are more aggressive arrogant and slimy than a sane person can imagine. i would rather sandpaper myself to death with 4000 grit paper than have to deal with them on a regular basis.

Sorry tallgrass, I must agree with Charles.  I also live in CT.  i have been to CA.  guess what?
The grass is a heck of a lot greener here than there.
what makes grass green?????  8)
B--- S---  ::) ;D ;D  :P

there are probably more flesh eating lawyers in California than there are people in CT. my grandmother lives there and when i visit i do not feel the fear, here i walk out side and i see them circling, not only that there are lines of of them outside of the fire stations just so they can fallow the fire engines and be first in line when the ambulance arrives. beat that!

After circling the drain due to possible legal issues the Walko Workbench draw has been cancelled.
There is only so much effort and time I have to put into this and frankly the turn of events have made me weary and I decided to pull the plug and withdraw the offer on the Walko.

All admissions will be returned and I ask for your patience while Nickao returns all admissions to the participants, it will take a few days but he knows of my decision and will act accordingly.

Sorry for the inconvenience,
Henrik

Good Afternoon,
I'm sorry as well.  I always like to see members put together a good effort like this.  Unfortunately, with this one, we innocently stumbled into something that stood in our way.

But it does not change the fact that Henrik and others put in some honest and generous work.

Let's see if we can come up with another similar effort that would work better.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Nickao, Henrik, Brice,

As others have said, thanks for your effort.

Nickao, you can either keep my $10 or donate to a charity of your choice. You have gone above and beyond in your effort to make this work.

To the group,

Man you talk about making a mountain out of a mole hole, this was it. How this got derailed makes no sense to me. I'm sure others will be chomping at the bit trying to get together another good effort!!

In one way or another the world is full of politics.

Sorry to see this is cancelled, but thanks for all the effort!

Please use my entry fee to support this Forum.

Thanks, Harry

No need to return my money - take your daughter and Google paymaster to breakfast or buy yourself a beer for all the hard work Nickao.

Henrik and Brice - thank you for your generosity of coming up with donations.

Thanks to everyone for trying to pull this off.  I was in Woodcraft and finally saw the Walko.  I was hopeful for a draw and win.
Guess it's time to save some money...

Well everyone I still intend to give the Porter Cable router away. Anyone that entered the drawing gets a shot to win the router for free, no entry fee or shipping charge, all you have to do is send me a Private Message here asking for your chance to win the router. I'll pull a name out of a hat on Saturday April 18th at 10:00 PM EST. Remember to be eligible you must contact me before the draw on Saturday. Good luck.

You can keep the $10, as others have said have a beer or whatever else $10 will buy these days

I can understand how it may seem that this was an example of making a mountain out of a molehill.  But try to see it from a forum-management perspective.  If I hear from a trusted source of legal counsel that this could be in violation of laws, and that the forum would be responsible and perhaps subject to fines, how could I simply ignore that?  And what other response could I have?

I tried to work this out carefully.  At first, I simply sought out advice from members to hear if anyone knows information that could help.  And as it turned out, a couple of people reported similar issues with "lotteries" they ran.  Other people reported that in fact this could be an issue.

I've said it many times: I am fully in support of member efforts here.  That's what the forum is all about.

I do think that there are lots of members with great ideas who may be eager to put together another good effort.  Brice is doing it right now with his offer.  Dealers have done, and are doing, all kinds of great things right now.  This was the only time the forum has ever put the brakes on any member-driven effort.

It's important that there be no misunderstandings here.  This was not so much cancelled by me.  I wish it could have worked.  Everyone involved had some frustration to deal with: Nick and Henrik had to put in time and effort; I had to deal with pretty extensive offline and online communication.

So, I come back to my previous point: let's take the energy and generosity of this idea and see if it can be transferred to another effort.  I'll bet we could come up with something that helps soothe the frustration of this experience.

Thanks everyone for understanding.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

I took a look at this thread for the first time tonight.  Matthew, your counsel was right:  every state in the U.S. regulates gambling, and this would probably be considered unregulated gambling in any number of states (and perhaps more than one nation) regardless of how worthy the cause and how good the intentions of all who worked to make it happen.  My sympathies go to everyone involved, but let's also keep in mind the damage that was prevented by calling it off.

John

Hello Everyone

Bummer about the lottery issues. I will be mailing cheques to those who entered via snail mail.

FWIW, I checked into having the draw done up here in Canada and ran into the same legal issues. They are so strict up here we have ran into licensing issues for raffles on kids sports teams and such......

Dan,
Thanks for letting us know about this.  Your report is just the kind of reason I had to act on this as I did.

By acting, not only did I protect the forum but also saved Henrik, Nick, and Brice from potential headaches I'm sure they didn't want.

As has been reported before, this is just an unfortunate thing.  There were good intentions all around, and it should not reflect on anyone involved here.  Although it seemed as though I was being overly cautious, unfortunately, in a legalistic climate, that's what needs to happen.

Again, let's tap the energy and creativity from this effort.  I'm sure that lots of people here have ideas for something similar in nature, but which avoids legal pitfalls!

In a larger sense, I think it would be great to open up some new member-driven or dealer-driven efforts that bring some more fun and engagement to the forum.

Thanks,
Matthew

Whatever that is NOT the case here when someone out of country is running the drawing! No one ever asked you to run the drawing Dan. You are describing a completely different scenario that has absolutely nothing to do with the format Henrik and I devised , that was approved by my attorney. So Matthew you are so totally wrong and off base and so cheap you could not even call an attorney as I did, so nothing you say carries any weight with me anymore. You canceled this with absolutely no reason and still have never given a concrete reason. I did my homework, you did not.

I will never comment on the subject again.

All 10.00 for the canceled Walko drawing have been refunded. It may take up to one week to show up on your credit cards, but you should receive an email at the email address you gave or made at the google account purchase link.

If you do not see a refund in 7 days on your card or do not get an email from google within 3 days, please email me to verify.

Nick
