Hi Foggers,
I just finished up a Moxon vise build for my shop.  The plans for this vise came from Dustin Penner (you tube).  I really liked his mix of woods in making his vise so I build mine with walnut and hard maple.  The hardware came from Benchcrafted and I must recommend their hardware.  Everything is very smooth and I love the fit and finish of the hardware.  I finished this vise by sanding with granat to 220 then applied Waterlox.  This was my first time using Waterlox and I really do like it.  It applies easily and I did not have any issues with runs at all.  I did lightly sand with 500 platin between coats by hand.  Take a look.

Now to go cut some dovetails for my next project.

Thanks,
Trevin

Very nice.  I wonder if the walnut will make the vice 'grip' the wood any better, due to it's slight softness?

I have the same kit, and I'm sure the crubber will be ample grip, but it would be interesting to know if there is a meaningful difference in using a softer wood vs a harder wood for the jaws.
