Walnut Table Top Using the Festool “System”

I am a hobbyist who has gradually started to do commission work for others.  This is a sofa table top for someone else.  I am adding this picture before glue up, sanding, and finishing to add my praise for the DF700, the TS 75 and Festool sanders.

The TS75 does an excellent job getting a straight edge on rough sawn lumber to start the milling process.  For this project I used the TS75 to straight line cut both edges on all three boards.  Then I just ran the edges to be joined through my jointer once.  I also used the TS 75 to cut both ends to the final size to get a splinter free cut.

The top is about 35 mm or 1 3/8 inches thick.  I used 12mm dominos and adjusted the depth so these are in the middle of the boards.  Getting the top to align was a breeze and much easier than jointing/thickness planing 3075mm / 10 foot long walnut boards.  This tool, while not cheap, made the tops of the boards align perfectly.  Having the boards aligned perfectly made glue up easy and will help with sanding once glue dries.  For the sanding I will use my ETS EC 125 outfitted with an 150mm hard pad I purchased for sanding large flat surfaces.  DF700 is a big time saver for me when building table tops, etc.

Thankful to a have access to these tools when building table tops.

Beautiful grain there! Yeah the Festool gear really makes woodwork a joy doesn't it. Good luck with your venture, you're off to a good start by the look!

That's some wild looking walnut, an obviously very crooked tree.
Can't wait to see the completed job.

I am always interested to see grain patterns and colors on walnut after getting the surface planned.  Will post a pick once I get the finish applied.

[member=58857]Crazyraceguy[/member] Here is a shot of the completed top.  Sorry the pic is a little dark.  I turned off the shop lights to reduce glare.  There is certainly some wild looking grain which is even more visible with poly.  I like the finished look.  The person I made it for loves it and that is what matters most.
