It was a Festooligan's dream.  Everything in the arsenal was there including a few things I didn't know about.

They must have been looking over Mafell's shoulder on this one.  The short guide rail that the new HKC saw attaches to for crosscutting on the job site, no MFT needed.

The trainer for the Vegas training center was there and I got some good Kapex tips.  The sys vac is incredible.  As you can see, it was holding a heavy solid core door off the ground.

Got the T-shirt and a lot of great ideas.  I'm sure the Woodcraft guys were pretty excited about the turnout as well.  Got a free hotdog and chips so it was well worth the trip.

The roadshow "gimme bag" in Atlanta a few weeks ago included the T-Shirt and an 18V battery.

Is it wrong that I'm more curious about what tips they shared than hearing about the new tools?  :)

That'd be one helluva mobile shop to pull up with.

I know it was agreed upon by the shopping mall, so I blame them more than Festool, but did they really have to take up the disabled parking spots? Especially when some pics show that half the parking lot is still empty.

Having a mother who is wheelchair bound, this stuff just pisses me off. I'm sure Festool is the sort of company that will make sure this doesn't happen again.

On topic: what's the black thing on the side of their - brilliant - wood cart?

That black thing on the cart appears to a cloth, towel,or something else fabric.  Perhaps the SysTowel?

I don't know what it's like in the US, but if that was in Oz they would have organised the event with the property management and would have been told where to setup. If it impacted handicap facilities, alternatives would be organised.

I doubt very much whether this event was delivered in a way that impacted handicapped people.

The real problem is lazy and inconsiderate individuals. I'd support a law globally that their vehicles were towed and crushed without warning and no opportunity to claim on insurance.

I wish we had a rig like that touring Oz .. it'd be great for the remote areas.

It does look as though they took up one of the Handicap spots, which should be off limits to anyone not needing it.  As for the
"black thing" on the wood cart, it looks to me like one of the Festool shirts they give away.

Next year, I'm coming to Atlanta for the Roadshow!  Nashville received the shirt, an insulated drink sleeve, and catalog.  It must be up to the sponsoring dealer to decide what to give out.  The Nashville Woodcraft did provide lunch, which was nice.

On a side note, yesterday one of the Woodcraft employees confided in me that they sold over $30,000.00 worth of Festool products the day of the show.  Of course, it does not take long to reach that figure when your talking about Festool, but still pretty impressive results and well worth the cost of lunch!

The local Woodcraft shop here in Atlanta told me that the driver for the Festool truck refused to work on weekends.  So that's why they only have the roadshow on weekdays.

I think they should have looked around for another driver.

The driver is bound by the Motor Carrier rules as to how long they can drive and how many hours in a given days period.

I looked at the schedule, there are many Saturdays listed for the Road Show. Looks like it is on a 2 day cycle to break down, move and set up.

I am just reporting what Woodcraft told me.  If that is the case regarding motor carrier rules, Festool should hire two drivers, use a smaller truck(s) or figured something else out.  It was a waste of Festool money to have the roadshow during the week in Atlanta as far as I am concerned.  Can you imagine how much bigger the crowds would have been on the weekends in the Atlanta area, a huge top ten market?  Just look at the handful of people in the pictures posted above.

BTW, Atlanta now has two Woodcraft stores, Peachtree Woodworking Supply, Highland Woodworking, and a Rockler.  All but one of the Woodcraft stores are within a 20 minute drive of where I live.  That should give you some idea of the woodworking market in the Atlanta area.

The Road Shows are held on weekends. For some reason it did not occur in Atlanta. There are shows coming up on 5/14-5/21-6/4-6/11 all Saturdays, and more weekends after these.

Quit your whining.  I for one am grateful that they are stopping in Northern Colorado next week.  On a Tuesday.  Get some shop work done in the morning, run into town for tool drooling and socializing, get back to the shop and do some work.

Any day that ends in "y" should be good for this sort of fun.

Wish I had that option.  Most people don't have the kind of job that allows for that.

It's not about whining.  It is about Festool using good business acumen.

Wish my job was rolling with the Festool Road Show

Ya I'd love to have Festool roll up to my house on a Friday afternoon with a cold beer and some freshly cooked brats to give me a private showing...but it is what it is. At this time, they could say we'll be in the Twin Cities on Sept 31st and I'd find a way to be there. Alas...so far, no road show in the midwest, so if its a weekday or a weekend, you just need to live with it and adapt...or call in for a sick day. [eek] [popcorn]

That was the local woodcraft's wood cart.  I guess the Festool guys borrowed it for having some demo boards close at hand. I don't recall seeing what the black thing was.  I also got a 15v battery with the T shirt.  The store's Festool display was never more complete.  They also had just stocked up on a big order to be ready to deliver product without having to make the customer wait.  They must have had 15-20 CT's in their stockroom.  Festool as far as the eye could see!  Of course I had to help convince a few guys that resistance was futile...

One tip was learning the easy way to calibrate the scale on the Ug wings on the Kapex.  Just cut a board to an exact known length, say 100 cm.  The longer the better.  Set the flag at exactly 100 cm, place the board butting up against it and then loosen the three adjustment screws by the coupling underneath the wing.  Slide the board and the wing until it just contacts the blade and then tighten the screws.  It should be perfect.  Another thing was on the Carvex when using the circle cutting jig. You have to place the center pin on the side where the saw is attached to the trammel or it won't give you the desired diameter.  I remember a lot of comments about the angle base not having a lot of support. I asked about that and he showed me how to press down on the side of the base that is riding on the workpiece to keep it from tipping.  One final thing I remember seems pretty simple but not to be overlooked was with the small domino.  Most of the issues (bits breaking, mortices that are crooked) are because someone is pushing the bit in too hard.  They said to let the bit do the work and only apply gentle pressure with one hand on the fence knob and the other pushing on the back of the machine where the cord attaches.  Just don't get in a rush.
