I noticed when looking at the Festool website that the designation 'EQ' was added to the name of the OF1400.

Were there recent changes (and what were they), or was that what the tool was always called?

Gary Curtis ???

Gary,
Dont know about the history of the OF 1400 but in the Festool product codes "E" means electronics (variable speed and soft start) and the "Q" means the Plug It removable mains lead.

Martin.

Question answered. Mark at the Festool facility in Santa Barbara (CA) informed me today. Since its introduction a few years back, the OF 1400 has always been called the EQ. There haven't been any design modifications, with the possible exception of a technology ( is it MTA ??? ) which has to do with maintaining a set speed in response to workload.

I asked this on the forum because I'm waiting in the wings to buy the 1400 along with the MFT table.

Gary,

You won't be disappointed in the OF 1400.  It's right up there with the TS 55 in the all-time favorite tool list.  I look forward to topside routing with it.

BTW, are you in that photograph -- which one?  ;D ;D

[and BTW, for you OZ guys, I just watched a movietone newsreel movie about newsreel history in oz -- it started with a visit by the Marx brothers to Australia (I didnt know they could swim.)  I wished I had at least one of you here to translate though -- it's one thing trying to figure out what you're WRITING, but quite another to understand the speech -- especially at high speed!)
