What Festool Did You buy Today?

for my B day, I bought me the undulating head for my 850 planer. Easy to swap out the heads. Now trying to figure out what pattern to use how to get the effect I want.

Hi Ron

I remember watching [member=41214]Phil Beckley[/member] doing a demo and it seemed like an easy technique. I think that you lower into the wood, move if required and raise again in order to produce a rustic effect. You then finish with a very soft pad on the sander.

Maybe Phil can give some better directions for you or point you to a video.

Nice [member=10147]jobsworth[/member] .  Just in case you haven't seen the Jory Brigham videos, which I think inspired a lot of us to get into shaping and texturing, here's the publicity shot for the HL850, complete with preachy music, highlighting different features of the HL850, with the rustic heads demonstrated in the latter half:

And here's a more hands on demo of the rustic undulating head in particular:

There's a bit of a learning curve with it, where you have to figure out the ideal configuration of depth setting, number of passes, and direction of attack (to minimize tearout) to get the desired effect.  The first couple of times I used it I did not get as dramatic an effect as I was hoping for, but over time have become better able to manipulate the machine.  Keep in mind too that contour sanding is an important secondary part of the process.

Oh yes the contour pad. I didnt use it.

It could also be that Im trying to use it on a soft light wood (pine) . Klaus (festool rep) and Don Ware Both told me that pine wasnt the best to use it on. But it is doable.

My problem after thinking about it is it looks like Im just making divots in random patterns on the wood.

I played with it some more and realized that i have sort of well plane with it.

Ill hit it again more this morning .

Thanks you your help guys.

Broke down and ordered the RS 2e after staring at it on and off online for over a year.  Decided to take advantage of the 10% new CT Midi alongside. Ordered a set of Ruben's with it.

damn you Festool, expensive start to the year.  ;)

Spent more than I’ve spent on any other tools here’s what I got:

2018 CT 26

MFT/3

FESTOOL 574432 DOMINO JOINER DF 500 Q SET

TS75 with the 75” guide rail

I did save $194.50 though so that’s a good thing!

Now the bad part, I have to wait for all of them to come in!

Received the Sys Hub that I ordered through Amazon.de...$166.00, now waiting for the receptacles to get here.

Went to the Roadshow here near DC and bought the 0 degree base for the MFK700 and the trim bit for it.  Had not seen that bit til the show, and had them demo it for me.  Got it for 20% off from Woodcraft here.  It's quite expensive, but I liked how there are two square cutter blades, and you can rotate each 90 degrees so you have the equivalent of 4 sharp cutting surfaces on each over the life of the blades.  And you can get replacement blades.  Using the foot on the bottom, we determined that by making a first pass, and then a second by moving the foot, should be able to get close to 3/4" flush cut using the 0 degree horizontal base.  I'll try to test that out this week sometime.

First post: I bought myself a DTSC400 plus and the abrasive systainer. Very impressed with weight and the feel in the hand. Now that I own batteries and a charger that can only be used with sanders I will pick up a ETSC 125. and a abrasive systainer for that. That's how they get you. LOL

For safety sake I have unplugged my Kapex for my 36ac for fear of voltage issues.
Kapex=13 amps
36a/c =10 amps

The table widener, 493233, for the OF 1400.  [smile]

I went to install it and realized that there are only 2 positions to mount it in. I expected to be able to mount it in any of 4 positions so if you're using an edge guide you'd have a better handhold at the rear of the machine.  [sad]

Consequently, I made a pattern for the widener and drilled & counterbored the extra 6 holes that I needed that will allow it to fit into any of 4 positions.  [big grin]

Good idea.  I recently got a table widener and think I will do the same.  Thanks for sharing.

In addition to the table widener I got the long holey rail and the FS3000 rail.  Decided I was ready to move beyond connecting rails so I freed up some wall space in my garage for longer rails.

Thats what I did. Youll love that 3000 rail.  I got tired of joining rails to.

[member=10147]jobsworth[/member] been joining rails for 3+ years and had accurate results.  I just figured enough is enough.  I will still use the shorter rails and connectors when working at other locations because transport is easy but when not mobile I look forward to the long rail.

Glad you like it.

I used connected rails for quite sometime but i got tired of connecting and disconnecting them so Now I got the 3000mm rail I dont have that problem. I use my 1400 rails and my 1900 rail to.

I didny purchase it. It was a gift, but received my first festool. The 2018 model of the CT-SYS.  Can't wait to put it thru its paces
