What Festool Did You buy Today?

Just took delivery of an OF2200 router & accessory set and pushed the button on ordering a CS70 Precisio saw.

My bank balance is not on speaking terms with me anymore.....

Hi [member=30708]shed9[/member]

Well that would make my credit card melt !

The OF2200 is one of the 3 best machines that Festool have ever conceived (alongside the Domino and Centuro). At one point, having sold a lot of my old (pre Festool era) kit, I only had the OF2200 and no other router. Despite its size the machine is so gentle and easy to handle. My wife had an old travelling clock movement without a case and so I turned it a baby mantelpiece clock doing all of the work with the router hand-held.

The hole for the clock face was made with the router using a home made mini trammel. Te tray next to the clock also had some OF2200 input and is just big enough for 2 small mugs of tea.

Have to say, I was hesitant in getting the 2200 and put it off for a while, I already have the 1010 and the 1400 so thought that would do me but I have recently started to tool up my spindle moulder and started to appreciate the heft of more power in terms of cutters so went for a 2200. I got a really good deal on it, Nuts & Bolt in the UK have them at a decent price at the moment. First impressions are it's a well built machine, hefty but very controllable given its weight - no regrets yet.

Nice work as always Peter, good to see what the machine is capable of.

Interesting thing about the hose thing, it is lacking the annoying locking ring of the newer hoses.

Where did you find that? I would love to get my hands on a couple of those!

How do you get "deals"? I thought Festool had fixed prices everywhere? Is that just a US thing? I was under the impression that dealers would lose their selling ability for discounting.

Only in the US they sell for the same price. Here the FS 1400/-LR32 (496939) is ~€25 more expensive (including 21% VAT) than the normal FS 1400/2 (491498). Online about €115 vs €90

That's wild. I wonder why? Do you have the 2424 available to you (491622)?
Maybe that explains the reasoning behind the 2424 costing more than the 2700 here? It also seems odd that it is only available holey

Funny enough I sold my heavy spindle moulder and got more for the tooling than the machine. It all went on Festool kit of course.

It used to be a fixed price system here in Europe but Festool were invited to stop doing that a few years ago. Even before the fixed price system was abandoned I was able to get deals because the price fixing was only on tools and not accessories. So, when I bought my first Domino I managed to get a good discount on the domino assortment and the Trim Stop. I also got an extra hose at about half price when I bought my CTL26.

If you have fixed prices in the US try for a deal on the extras.

As Peter says, no fixed pricing here in the UK. Seems strange and uncomfortable not saying 'in the EU' anymore. The prices are not that far out from each other and you have to mix and match suppliers if you are getting a few tools as the deals are sporadic across dealers. That said I don't mind paying a little more sometimes as some dealers are better than others, Nuts & Bolts mentioned up there for instance are not always the best price but they are one of the better dealers, not to say there aren't others as well like everywhere else.

Yup, eye watering prices for spindle tooling, I've built up quite a lot of tooling to date (mostly CMT and Omas) but I'm going to invest in a decent Maggi-Steff power feed and do another of Peter Sefton's superb refresher courses before I start using it in anger and in full operation. I know I have bad habits and a refresher will be on the cards.

If they are not "fixed" does that mean you can work one dealer against another? Or get discounts based on volume? Like buying multiple tools or tools and a CT at once?

Here that gets you nothing. The price in the printed catalog is the same no matter where you buy it. Not even Amazon sells lower than that fixed price.
With local dealers, if you buy enough at one time, you can get some discounts on "other brands" in the same purchase. But that tends to be a wallet draining thing.
In my particular case, I got quite a deal on the big Bessey Clamps that show in my pics because I spent 10k at one shot. That only happens once in a lifetime and only because of insurance from a total loss.
It was almost all Festool and Bessey with a few other things like a Triton router for table mounting and a Kreg stop/measuring system for my mitersaw station. I have added more since that one-day purchase, but that was the core stuff to get me going again.

Peter, what does "invited to stop" mean? A nice way to say that the legislature told them to stop

Peter Sefton is a wonderful guy and his woodworking courses are second to none. Please remember me to him when you see him.

Good luck.

Hi Peter - as you can see price fixing is alive and well still in Australia, [but accessories can be discounted]. eg. Domino 700 $Aust 2445-00 in Sydney and same in Melbourne.  https://www.justtools.com.au/festool-domino-joining-system-574423-df700eq-plushttps://sydneytools.com.au/product/festool-df-700-eq-plus-720w-domino-joining-biscuit-machine

Warren at Toolfest is one of the nicest guys you can imagine and his company is a great place to go for Festool kit as long as you have an idea what you want (as the web site is quite Spartan).

yep.  i had picked up on that, but was just wondering where it had got to, as i placed the order on Friday before 5 and still no order confirmation so just about to call up.

i have called up before and the lady on the phone was very helpful, even though i asked a very dumb qestion [embarassed]

very helpful as usual.  turn out it was out of stock so they got onto festool the same day and ordered one.  the folks at wendligen are saying 5 to 7 days till it arives, sooooo..............  i'll just have to wait.

but i cant think of another company that would place an order just for one coustumer (afik) when they have a product out of stock.

[member=8822]toolfest.co.uk[/member] you have my unending respect.

Warren is a great guy. Ive met him when I lived in the UK. He is really customer focused and gives (the best he can ) US style customer service.

Is Linda still the one taking orders for him?

She is a sweetheart to.
