I’m one of the cool kids now.
Chestnut tool co. “Clam Clamps”
I have been looking at these for a few years, but never thought the value was there. Until some cool you-tube videos.
Looking forward to upping my miter trim game.
Cheers,Charlie

You're going to love them Charlie...one of the cool things about them is they are custom made in-as-much as you have to talk to the man in person to be able to order some. These aren't off-the-shelf items.

After talking with Jim, I realized that the clamps are machined in the Twin Cities (St. Paul/Minneapolis) and then shipped down to Florida for assembly.

I only purchased a pair of them but they are well worth the money.  [big grin] [big grin]  I've used them for door & window trim.

They are a thing of beauty even in the raw state...or maybe more importantly...because when in the raw state, they offer up their good looks with the machined stainless plates, the brass pivot points and stainless fasteners. Then again, the laser etching also adds to their elegance. Very nice.

I received  my Shaper table today...the packaging was amazing...Uncle Bob would have been impressed despite there being no bubble wrap involved.

I've been hearing a lot of good things lately about automotive masking tape so I picked up 2 rolls at the auto parts store.

I've always used blue painter's tape because it's easily available and cheap.

I haven't had a chance to use it for anything yet.

I always use 3M tape because I'm a Minnesota kind of guy...besides I have stock in the company.  [smile]

The green tape has a very aggressive adhesive and I've used it for masking off NY bluestone treads and risers when grouting them. Nothing else would adhere to the stone. It's a killer product.

Thanks for the heads-up on the yellow tape, I'm not familiar with that item.  [smile]  I need to check it out.  [big grin]

I recently purchased the Woodpeckers EZ Edge plane for putting 45º chamfers on drawer fronts. I like it a lot and it produces a nice uniform chamfer.

However, after some use the thing I didn't like was that the thumb wheel that controls the depth of cut was not marked so if the thumb wheel was moved accidentally or purposely you had no idea where you were.

And when you did move the wheel to remove more material you'd either remove too little or remove too much which would cause "chunking/gouging" of the cut surface.

The thumb wheel connects to the cutter blade which has a 32 TPI thread. That means that for every 1 rotation of the thumb wheel the cutter advances .03125", let's just call it .032", or 1/32".  [smile]

I decided to place 8 equally spaced marks on the top of the thumb wheel so that as I moved from mark to mark the cutter would advance or retreat .004". To be easier to identify where you were in the cutting process I used a Magic Marker to color the 8 positions, Red-Blue-Green-Black-Red-Blue-Green-Black.

I used a spotting drill to mark the thumb wheel. I like it...it works well.

My guess is that Woodpeckers may implement something along this line on their next production run of EZ Edge planes. That'd be nice because they'd use laser marking.  [smile]

Finally, I’ve waited a long time to get my hands on this kit. It is the 435ME-300 with both imperial and mm. Great ruler! The kit came in the plastic box which was a pleasant surprise as the photos and description didn’t say.
Bought from Axminster at a very reasonably price. Too bad they don’t have the double square and separate rulers in chrome. I’ll probably order them from Lee Valley very soon. Annoyingly Starrett is hard to find here.

[member=44099]Cheese[/member] : Very pleased with this, and I see a slight addiction for these personal tools to come. That is that they are for me, and only me [big grin].

Well, I see that Starrett's certainly stepped up their packaging quite a bit.  [smile]  That item was previously sold in a thin cardboard box.

The chrome finish that Starrett uses is absolutely the best. It's so easy to read and it holds up well to moisture. A number of years ago I purchased a 18" fully stainless blade to use with the square. While the stainless is impervious to rust, it's terrible to try to read. That's probably the reason they no longer sell stainless blades.

You can purchase items directly from Starrett. I just don't know about the shipping aspect.

Thanks [smile] - I just looked into the UK site, I’ll try an order there, securing at least one chrome blade, and both the 100 and 150mm double squares. I might even add a more pocket friendly 150mm combination square.

Nice carpenters chisel Oliver! Have similar from Bacho, but yours looks better
I carry a couple of these too:https://morakniv.se/produkt/stam/

(Have the Hultafors version, but really hard to sharpen)
Morakniv has nice easy sharpened steel.

Bought a small wall mountable dust collector. Shop Fox along with clamps and 4" hose. Usually use my CTs for all dust collection , but they cant keep up when I use my 12" planer and jointer. I made a adapter to use my CT 22. It worked fine for light cuts but once I tried to take a normalcy the hose got clogged also the CT got clogged.
So I thought since im only going to use it for the Jointer/Planer a small portable one will do nicely. Build a cabinet planer on top, DC on bottom should store nicely out of the way.

Ever since taking a couple of classes from Gregory Paolini, I have lusted after a Calavera Toolworks Tobacco work apron. Yesterday I got the package from Michael and as I told him, it is in a single word....Awesome

[attachimg=1]

It fit like a glove immediately and felt broken in.....Woohoo

Strictly speaking, I did not buy this "today", but very recently.

NAREX Paring Chisel. Width: 1/2" (13mm). This is a chisel with a long blade, for hard-to-reach locations. Blade Length: 245mm (9-1/2"). Handle Length: 134mm (5-3/4"). Total Length: 390mm (15-1/4"). Excellent workmanship.

Sorry - this is a gloat too. I have had a Makita cordless for a few years now and really like it. For some reason I've been looking for a good price for another saw for backup so I'm not without a saw if something happens to my old one. Plus thought it would be nice to have a cross cut and rip cut dedicated saws.

I get an email maybe week+ ago about a FLASH sale. It shows the Makita kit for $499 with a 39" rail so that was probably the bonus. I click on the link and it says add item to cart to see price - $179! Before I could spit out my coffee in disbelief I ordered one. Second surprise I received it!
