So I understand where all the different sanders come into play and there uses.....except the RTS400.  Can someone tell me the general use for the RTS would fit into where lets say any of the rounded sanders cant do or the DTS cant do.

Thanks

DTS can do what the RTS can do, but the tip of the pad or paper will wear quicker. DTS is more stable too since the pad is flared out a little and the RTS isn't. RTS is probably a more efficient solid surface sander or drywall sander. Try em both if you can.

I love the DTS, has to be their best sander IMO.

The RTS sometimes fits where the DTS doesn't fit. I think the DTS is generally the nicer sander but sometimes the thing you have to sand is just too narrow for the DTS to fit in. Take Scott's picture above for example. Sometimes the recessed area in the middle of the drawer front is so small only the RTS will fit in. Same goes for spots on doors and window sills. Most of my sanding needs are done with the DTS but sometimes I have to take the RTS out and then I'm glad I have it.

Plus it's cool if you have the LS130 and you get to use the same abrasives.

One way to maximize your Festool dust extraction experience during sanding is to make sure that the sander is never larger than the surface being sanded. As Alex noted, there are many times when the dimensions of the RTS are just perfect.

Hi

The RTS is actually my next sander to get. I've been considering the DTS but since I already got the RO90 with the delta pad I will opt for the RTS. The way I think is:

Good for 90 degree corners and straight edges.
4 corners to wear out on the paper insted of 1 (or 3).
Not as wide as other sanders.
In the future I might go for the LS130, same paper.

Recently I used my new RTS400 for the first time.  This was to restore a small cabinet.  On this project I also used my RO90 with the triangular pad.  This was an excellent combination that allowed access to most areas of the job.
The RTS is a light sander that is great for sanding vertical surfaces.
