Which dust extraction system? CTL? CTM? 27? 36? AC? LHS?

Hi Everyone,

First time I've posted here. so apologies if I've broken any rules

Sorry for all the question marks. As you can guess I'm a little confused about what dust extraction to go for.

As a little background I don't personally own any festool products, yet but where I work we have the HL850 planer and one of the unusual shaped planer heads for it and I'm impressed with it. Im trying to take our tools down the quality route mostly because we often have to ask them to do the job of larger table based tools because of the sheer size or unusual shape of the timber (lots of "natural" looking beams etc.). I guess the big goal is one of the giant mafel planers but I'm not quite there yet.

I really want to get dust extraction sorted in our workshop because I personally want it to be safer, I want us to look more like we care about our work (which we really, really do) and I'm bored of getting moaned at for tidying up.

So I'll mostly be planing and sanding hardwoods sometimes up to quite a fine grain (sometimes just cos I can)

As and additional point I'm going to be helping a friend refurb his old yacht (Which just about made it over from Ireland to the UK following much hilarity). I've never done this but I'm guessing there is a lot of sanding of fibreglass and cutting of marine ply involved. If I can get the dust extraction to work for this job as well that would be great.

Tools I'll be looking at in the near future are probably the RO150 and the TS75 if that also helps with narrowing down what I should look for.

Thanks in advance for any advice. I'll make sure to post back what I end up doing

If your using the planer then a 36 mm option would be best. As for the differences in dust extractors, surely a simple ready of the descriptions is all that is required?

Is it staying mainly stationary? If so then go for a larger one. More capacity, less bag changes needed and probably more suction power (but not sure). If your intending to wheel it about, chuck it in and out the van on and around site then opt for something smaller and easier to carry. What your actual best option would be, should funds allow is to buy one of each [emoji41]
