which Felder to get?

I am planning on selling my Hammer K3 Winner in a few months and get a either a KF500 or KF700.  I saw where you can order the 700 without the electric drive or display.  What's the difference then between the two if you don't want the electric drive?  They look pretty much the same and use the same motors etc.  I'm sure the 700 is a few thousand more.  Can you put the mobility kit on the 700?

You also can only get the shorter sliders. If you want to truly upgrade you go the KF700, a more robust saw unit, better shaper with the larger 240 hood. The chassis is more robust and doesn't use concrete to counterbalance. I have previously owned a K500S and have a friend that has the older style KF500. My friend would update in a heart beat if he was a little younger, and I have owned the K700SP since 2010 with a separate F700Z shaper.

That's very interesting so the KF500 is really nothing more than a glorified Hammer B3 (not a bad place to start, however!) with the X-roll table.  It seems to me get a "real" Felder you gotta start with the 700 series.

That's it Howard, IMHO the only saw in the 500 series which is different,  is the reasonably new K540S which has the dual trunnion setup of the 700 series but has been setup to take a 14" max. blade.

There's a lot of detail in getting your KF700 configured the way you need it. I'm still a way away from pulling the trigger, but for interest .. here's the configuration I'm looking at (It's for Australian delivery and would set me back $AU20K+)

My K500S had a 98" slider and because of the lighter, Hammer style under carriage had a large formed concrete counterbalance in the floor of the saw cabinet. At the time (2008) I was told it was an anti tipping safety feature weighing around 300 LBS.

Kev a couple of suggestions to your configuration would be going for the shaper integral fence plates 500mm which would be the Aigner fence. Also instead of the Felder curved shaper hood look at the Aigner Bowmould system, both are more money but far superior. The last would be an accessory for the slider not in the machine details, its called a parallel fence with table PN 430-149. Also don't forget a power feeder and tilt away bracket.

I mean nothing by it with regard to your machine but i would be pissed to find out the weight of my machine was due to concrete vrs metal.

Good info to have moving forward as a slider is my next purchase. Maybe i will have to consider another manufactuer. Kinda a shame being i have three Felder machines to date planning on more.

I would only be concerned if considering a Hammer with the longer slider or the K500S with the longer slider. The smaller entry slider machines do not need the extra. The 700 series and up don't need or use. I sold the 2008 K500S I had and replaced it with a 2010 K700SP with a 126" slider for cutting sheet goods easier.

hmmmm.  No concrete in my K3 but maybe it's because I have a 48" slider.  Luckily, I have a Felder rep and showroom in my town (Dallas).  I will be paying him a visit before I order anything. I just hope I can sell my slider when it's time.  Not too many people who hang out on CL have ever heard of it.
