Why are these threads disappearing so fast?

It seems that recently threads are being eliminated at a record pace.  In the past, you could count on a thread lasting at least a day.  Not so anymore.  I came on at around 5:00a.m. this morning and saw about 4 threads (not exactly an overload), but when I came back on @ 8:30a.m., even they were gone.

It just seems like a little too much housecleaning to me.

Can you give us an example of a thread that has disappeared?

Click on the big "FOG" at the top left of this page and scroll way down.  Do you see the missing thread?

I typically use the "Unread" tab on the top right.

We do not remove threads as house cleaning.  I suspect that you are not seeing them on the home page at the bottom.  That area will only show the most recent 100 replies (posts).

After you click the "Unread" button at the top, look at the bottom and click the "All Unread Topics" button. The "Unread" button only shows new posts since your last visit. The "All Unread" will show everything that you haven't viewed.

Are you on a cell phone or on a computer? I mostly use Tapatalk (iOS  and Android) and it works well -- no threads are lost.

I should have been clearer on just what I meant by "Threads disappearing"

The only time threads normally seem to go away, is after I have viewed them, or they have spent too much time on the default unread list.  Even then, the thread is still available elsewhere, just not on the default unread page.    Should I not view a thread, normally it stays on  the default "unread" page.  If I have read a thread, and it no longer shows up, the only time it comes back to the "default unread" page is if someone has posted a new comment.

The issue I have noticed is when the I log into the default unread threads page,  they disappear without being read by me.

Usually, this happens once a day sometime in the evening, and it seems normal because otherwise the unread list of threads would continue to grow out of control.  I understand the need to "trim" the list down occasionally.  Having said that, yesterday I noticed only 4 threads on the list when I logged in around 5:00a.m. (and I did not read any of them).  When I logged back in around 8:00a.m., all 4 were gone.

Someone said only the threads that appeared since my last visit will appear on the default unread page, but this is certainly not the case either.  As I already mentioned, normally a thread does not disappear until after I have viewed it, and then comes back when someone else responds.

What I have noticed as of late, is the unread  list being trimmed more aggressively and more often than usual.

When you click the "Unread" button at the top, you're redirected to this URL:
http://festoolownersgroup.com/unread/

On that page there's an "All Unread Topics" at the bottom of the page which redirects to this URL:
http://festoolownersgroup.com/unread/?all;start=0

For me, the "Unread" appears to be time based. Threads will disappear after a while. I've never been interested enough to determine what that interval is. The "All Unread Topics" page shows everything that I have missed, even if it's weeks old.

Here is another topic on the subject

       http://festoolownersgroup.com/forum-features-functions/display-all-the-recent-topics/

The "Unread" button at the upper right shows unread since last visit, if you log out. If you don't log out it can be used as a refresh unread topics.

However after hitting the green unread button look at the lower right of the results page. You will find another button  that says "All Unread Topics". Which will bring up every topic that has a new post since you last read it or marked everything as read.

The FOG is a two stage unread message system

i.e. When you first access the system you see all forums that have unread thread. Soon as you go to ta specific forum it will be marked as read (the forum only). To reproduce what I just explain, locate a forum that has unread thread. Go to that forum and then click the FOG picture or Home link. You will see that that forum is no more unread despite the fact that you haven`t read any thread from it. Now go back to that forum and you will see from the top the unread threads.

Hope that help clarify the system work flow.
