Why was the MFS routing template discontinued?

One thing that I thought odd was that when I was able to procure the 1000mm profiles (from Engineering Agencies in the UK, right after the MFS was discontinued in the US), they had a slightly different font on the stickers than the rest of the ones I had.  Not sure why they switched the design (considering they seemed to be ending production), but maybe as Peter suggested, they had ordered a fixed amount of product way back during original production, and then as they finally sold out, they had some profiles left but no stickers and had to make up some new ones.

[Edit: I just saw Bryan's pics and he has the newer font, so who knows...]

I really like the MFS.

Anyone use the router slide? Weird that it has not been discontinued yet in NA. Just curious how you have employed that or if most users do not have it.

Thanks

[member=10223]fritter63[/member] mentioned above that did.  Maybe he could add his experience?

I would find the smaller MFS very useful but have not bought one yet.

I do not know what rules Festool imposes on their retailers but surely if something is NAINA then as an individual one could import whatever it might be from (say) Axminster who have a proven track record for shipping to North America.

This would work particularly well for something like the MFS where there are no code/compliance issues.

Hi Peter

Interestingly, I have just read that a dealer within the EU may not export outside the EU without written permission. Just a technicality I'm sure but any dealer wishing to export might want to get that permission before doing so?

Best regards

Warren

I assume Festool gives that permission for NAINA items straight away... right, Festool?

If not, there is the magic of online communities and individuals doing the exporting...

However, to get out from under the VAT, it's easier if it's done by a company.

There is also nothing that prohibits anyone setting up a mini company, buying bulk at an official Festool dealer, then exporting it as a non-dealer.

And this whole 'dealer may not export' would turn into a huge 'whack a mole'. Somewhere, someone on this continent will ship if Americans pay  [big grin]

Did I mention you could try a European billing address and an American delivery address?

If I am honest with myself, I do not need another MFS set. Therefore I will mention that last week I saw a 400 and a 700 set at the Woodcraft Delaware store. They were sitting on edge beside an MFT table. Please go buy them before I go there again and do something foolish.

Gents,
I'm sure a new run of these will be available super soon.  Let's let all the existing stock sell out and ramp up some demand, then release a new US Imperial version with a cool marketing Video and a small price increase.

I tried to order the MFS 400 from Axminster in November and received the following reply:

I am writing to you in relation to your order for the 492610 FESTOOL ROUTING TEMPLATE MFS 400.

We have been informed by Festool that they have now discontinued the product and can no longer supply the item for this order. Due to this we have had to cancel the order and refund the monies back to your account.

If anyone has had success with Axminster since then I would be interested in hearing about it.

I'd like to know how it is used as well.

I'd like to know how it is used as well.

I have used for routing circular discs /  circular depressions / grooves such as grease grooves in cutting boards / routing out bowls / squareing up of router guide / picture frames / drawer handles / surface flattening rough cut boards after cutting to rough length / using as circle guide while cutting circle disc (lazy susans)on my bandsaw / that's all I can think of right off hand but I'm sure others have found more uses.

I removed your temptation for you. I just purchased both the MFS 400 and 700 sets from the Delaware store. I'm always happy to help out a fellow FOG member.  [big grin]

Thank you for sharing the information.

Uh oh... yeah, the MFS is going out of stock on this side of the Atlantic too.
