Why was the MFS routing template discontinued?

FWIW, I've managed to snag the router carriage in the UK and the few suppliers I checked with prior to assaulting my wallet all said Festool have stock of that particular item (I didn't ask about any of the other bits unfortunately).

FFX, Engineering Agencies and Power Tool Centre were all able to order them in and I'm sure Toolfest would too.

I hadn't realised the MFS line was getting axed and was very lucky by the sounds of things to get what was likely the last 700 set off FFX. I'm so glad I didn't go for the cheaper Trend Varijig as, as others have pointed out, an unreliable measurement scale would all but ruin what is an extremely versatile accessory.

I ordered in July last year the MFS 700 rails which arrived last week, what Festool Australia said was that Germany had no stock so I had to wait until a new production run took place in January. Apparantly they had no more of the extrusions available to produce any.
This reply ccame from Festool Aus on many occasions, so it was either well scripted BS or was the actual issue why they had no stock.

I'm told they're not discontinued in the UK but delivery not until May/June.

There is a Festool 495648 Routing Slide on Amazon Warehouse Deals right now and I found Festool Extension Profiles listed at dynamitetoolco.com in case anyone is interested.

Anyone use the router slide? Weird that it has not been discontinued yet in NA. Just curious how you have employed that or if most users do not have it.

Thanks

I used it for a table inlay project. I inset some granite tiles about 1/4" into the surface, and after routing the perimeter with the MFS, I used the router slide to hog out the middle parts. Basically, you position it, run the length of the slide, then loosen and move it over by hand < bit width. It's manual, but it did a good job, Not too many witness lines.

I have had a set on order for a couple months now.  The MFS400 set finally arrived.  The MFS700 profiles are still on back order in the UK until 5/12.

I just took advantage of the Amazon deal for the routing slide  - it was only $90.  They still have a couple of ones available used, but for slightly more money.
