Will New Clear Splinter Guard Stick?

I also read that the new guard is harder than the old, so it tends to slide easier over wood...not good when you want the guide rail to stay in place.
Definitely some mixed reviews here. Hmmm...is the old black guard still available?

I like the clear for visibility easier to see where to place the rail to your pencil mark especially if you get a shadow line.

BUT

Everything else with the clear is totally crap!

Adhesive with the clear is crap
The fact the adhesive does not cover near as much surface on the strip is the main cause why they peel from the edge because dirt can work its way under more easily. Plus they have used a weaker adhesive I believe.

Also I preferred the rubber feel on the black one it helped grip the material better when cutting narrow stock, unlike the clear which is more hard plastic is very poor.

I my self will only buy the Makita black untill festool makes a clear version but with the same benefits the black strip had.

First clear 1 was crap but the second i cleaned rail with xylene and its been on a few month now

I purchased the makita strip over a year ago and I love it and have bad no problems with it.  I m pretty sure I got it on amazon.

I'm gonna pick up some tomorrow 5.99 d&m tools just up the road from me. My 1400 rails have been tatty for ages , about time I did something about it.

I just replaced the strip on all my guide rails. I tried it it on one not follow the directions on the box. It didnt work.

So the next time I followed the direction,

peel the old one off

use acetone to clean the rail

scrape off the residual (i used the acetone and paper towels along with something to scrape the residual off)

apply the new strip.

worked like a charm

Woodie

Would you mind posting the number on the back of the makita one. It starts NITTO 5.............

Festoolviking

It says Nitto No. 500.

Ok, it seems like nitto 500 is the double coated adhesive tape that fix the splinterguard to the rail. Maybe Festool should try that one on their splinterguards. I guess it would be worth a try to get hold of a roll of the Nitto tape. This way you could actually re-use the splinterguard.

Picked up some of the Makita stuff today £5.99 for 3m. Cleaned off all the old stuff with sticky stuff remover , wiped clean and stuck on the new stuff seems ok so far.

Not trying to [dead horse] but I thought I'd show my 3000mm rail before replacing the splinter guard strip. This is the factory applied strip.

The makita 118" splinter strip does fit this rail by the way (just).

I do all of the above, but I supplement the adhesive with Fastcap Speedtape (and have been since the black rubber edge days)

Ever since I started adding this stuff (and leaving the edge a few mm short) I haven't had a single problem with edging coming loose!
