Wobble in Centrotec in new CXS

I purchased the CXS set yesterday.  It's pretty cool, I needed a small drill to take on a trip with me, the size, weight, and the systainer makes it idea for me.  The sustainer has enough room to put in a screwdriver and some drill bits.

In trying out all of the combination of chucks, there is a fair amount of wobble in the Centrotec chuck.  The keyless chuck seems fine.  Putting the supplied PH2 bit directly in the drill is also fine.

Is this normal?  I would have thought at the price of this product, it would be close to perfect.

Should I return it and try out a different one?  Contact Festool?  Suggestions please.

p.s. I was also surprised that it only comes with one bit.  You think they could have included a few more.....

I returned my first CXS for the same reason but after a recent trip to Germany and seeing the same thing there I bought another when I got back. The first one was more pronounced but it is still there. I'm not worried about it.

Festool wants you to happy with your purchase.  Perhaps taking it back with you to a dealer (it seems that you bought local) and comparing it with one or more will help you decide what to do.

Peter,

Yes, I will give that a try tomorrow.

Thanks,
Bob

Both mine wobble in free air, tip makes contact with a surface and it runs true.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the entire point of Centrotec to eliminate wobble?

Where did you get that idea? The point of centrotec is quick change.

What Tom says above is true, wobble in free air, but make contact with a surface and the wobble is gone because now your bit is supported from 2 sides and the result is precise enough for what you can expect from a handheld drill.

Kind of a shame, but yes my cxs has wobble too. Honestly it may be 20% better than a standard 1/4" quick connect.

In actual reality, I don't notice the slightest difference in performance/ease of use between the two. Driving screws daily installing cabinetry.

I took it back to the dealer where I purchased the CXS.  We tried another one and it was the same.  He then swapped for a different bit adapter that was much better.

I conclude the problem was not with the Centrotec adapter, it was the included bit adapter.

Good dealer experience!
