Wooden Bicycles

Ya no kidding, I would ride one of those in a second. Being a carpenter I'd like to figure out how to build my own though [big grin]

Ya that Triatholon bike looks mean, though 3grand for the frame only is a bit rich for my blood. would still love to figure out building my own as a project.

Wow  way cool but way expensive.  I think I'll get a regular bike frame and laminate it  [tongue]    Bang!  "wooden" bike in an afternoon.

Years ago when I did a lot of bike riding I was on an organized ride someplace & came across this guy that had built a recumbent out of outdoor wood.  He didn't waste much time shaping it & as I recall the main frame was two "straight" 2x8's that ran the length of the bike with the rear wheel set into them and the front fork at the other end.  The whole thing weighed around 75lbs. -- not so good for climbing hills but he passed everyone on the downhills.  [wink]

These bikes are made here in Portland.  I have seen a couple of them around town.  They are very cool looking bike and seems to be well built.  I have been meaning to stop by there showroom.  Maybe I will do that this week.  ;D

Ya no kidding, see if you can suss out how to build one though I'm sure they're not too keen on giving away their secrets.

I remember seeing a 19th century antique wooden bicycle made by a major company of the day on the American television show American Pickers.

Wow. Years ago I had an expensive though older "CroMoly" mountain bike and it was so much more elastic than aluminum and, IMO, handled better because of it. I loved that bike and missed the ride, so I can only imagine what these things are like. Later, also due to biking, I was in a leg cast for 4 months. My doctor told me to get wooden crutches since they absorbed more shock than steel ones. It was a huge difference. They are hard to find, so I still have them in the attic - just in case!
