For the second day in a row, FOG is so slow that it is frustrating to use.

I’ll check back tomorrow.

The problem is that the speed waxes & wanes. It’ll be normal for 15 minutes and then slow down for 2 hours and then it’ll speed up again. It’s all over the map.

This post plus this new updated reply took almost 6 minutes.

Saturday.

9:58 a.m.

Slow again.

Feels like the site has a hangover.

Do forums develop drinking problems?

I’ll try again in a couple of hours.

Or perhaps we should enroll it in ForumAnon. [eek]

Yesterday the forum was at its normal speed for me.  Today it is very slow, while other forums are normal.  The response time between mouse clicks is at least ten seconds, and sometimes over thirty seconds.  I usually close the window and move on to other things.

I find myself checking FOG less and less, and abandoning conversations before I was inclined to, because this site is so ponderously slow.

Eventually, I will give up on FOG entirely. I suspect everyone here has some tolerance limit that will drive them to do the same.

It’s a real shame, as this was a useful and enjoyable site.  Now it is less useful and far less enjoyable.

Please bring back the old FOG.

A special thanks to the Internet Deities who fixed this site.  Makes it a pleasure to post.

It's baaaaack. Whatever it was, it decided to return.  [crying] [crying] [crying]

FWIW...when I pull up the menu for more emojis, there are only 5 available. Maybe that's also a slow refresh issue?

I notified Festool yesterday about the slowness and by evening I couldn't get on the forum.  This morning it is quite speedy for me.  Please report here during the day your experiences.  I learned the hard way not too long ago that my internet experiences might not mirror yours.

Thank you for your help.

Peter

One thing I noticed yesterday and again this morning was that it looks like the site is attempting to live-update the tab title with the unread message count.  This morning the count was (Bad Value!).

After the last speedup, the unread message count was gone altogether and, while inconvenient, I accepted it as the price of having a snappy site.

If turning it on has caused the site to slow down again, it's probably worth keeping turned off, or at least using that as a data point in troubleshooting.

These continual slowdowns are not a good look for Festool, a company which promotes its product technology and attention to detail. This is curious... there are plenty of capable people in this country, even on this forum likely, who could identify and fix this for them.

I agree, but I suppose this is the best we can expect with any site running Simple Machines Forum software.  I am tempted to write "you get what you pay for", but Simple Machines is freeware and expectations are very low.  On my non-income generating sites, I pay for the annual license for XenForo.  If I can do this, surely Festool can dig deep into the budget and find $160 for the annual license.
This is what I see now in the browser tabs when I try to use FOG:

License fee must NOT be the reason why Festool is hanging onto a program that under-performs (I know that's not the strong enough word that other frustrating members would use here). All other forums I visit do not have the intermittent access or speed problems we have witnessed on this forum for months and they don't have the resources that are even remotely close to Festool's. I knew I was -- unfortunately -- right when I said I wasn't holding my breath about the last fix in another related thread.

I don't think the lousy forum performance would affect Festool (sales or reputation) because a) the forum problems are unrelated to the Festool customer service or products themselves, and b) most Festool users I know aren't members of FOG or ever heard of the forum.
