6/1/12 Who is a happy new owner of Domino XL or the Syslite

Scott, i started my career as a painter. My paint store has been around for forty years and is considered the best spot in the state. The guys there all have more experience then i have years and they schooled me well. Been using Flood for five years. I have seen many of them years later holding up. It almost has a glossy film too it, i like to call it the helmet. I dont use anything from them besides the solid. Other finishes i use Sikkens, Penofin on nicer decks, Eric

Who has buyers remorse from buying a $175.00 flashlight? Just wondering? Festool seems to have made more enemies then friends with the Syslite campaign. At least on the other forums i hang out at. The XL looks amazing though, Eric

Eric,

Not me. Ordered the XL and the lite and I'm possibly more excited about the lite.

Before JLC, I would have questioned my own sanity for spending that much money on a flashlight. And then I saw how bright it was. Ever since, June 1 couldn't approach fast enough. I'll mount it on a tripod next to the MFT and finally get some decent light on finicky projects. (Living in an 80 yo house without enough natural light or lamps has its disadvantages).

But it will also be great for working in the panel box, drywall, undercabinet plumbing, etc. And it's not going to burn my backside if I back into it.

Would it be nice if there were two in the box? Sure. But I'm happy to get one right now. And LEDs still aren't cheap.

Best,
Steve

For me, as a finisher, LED light is a better representation of natural light and true color representation.

Here is an example of how our fluorescent lighting turns white paint to a pukey yellowish green:

And here is how the same color is represented with LED using the Syslite:

After BuilderBob lending me his for a day+, I'm buying 6 of them to use as nightlights.  I might use several once a week when I go up in the attic and add another case of spray foam everywhere.  I'm addicted to the stuff, Kreg, plus it's fun watching it expand with the SysLites.

I heard the led light from the syslite makes the foam
Expand bigger  [big grin]. Just saying!!!

Kaizen is crazy, it acually multiplies from the led light.

Back on topic though. The syslite is a crazy important tool to me now. It's so compact and portable it takes no time to set up so you find yourself using it when you would have just done something in a poorly lit area. I'm lazy, unless I really needed light bad I would rather struggle to see then make the trip to the truck for the halogens.  Which was a stupid and unsafe idea, but now I can toss the syslight on my work bag and it can be inside with me. And I already own Festool drills so I have a bunch of batteries.

$400 with stand? Is a really nice set up, just saying, Eric

So I get this light in the mail today and what do I find, It is amazing, awesome and probably one of the brightest light I have ever used.

I would never believe I would spend this amount of money on something like this but again the Festool Cool Aid has come thru and now I am thinking of buying another to keep with me when I am working in the bottom of a bilge in a boat.

I have to say thank you Festool for an unexpected suprise in this light

Sal

I'll leave aside the fact that complaining about $US175 for a Syslite sounds like babies having their dummies stolen when I'm paying $AU300 !!  [big grin]

Looking at the price as a relative base line and the "sum of the parts" as the typical comparison doesn't tell the entire story - in balance, you need to consider the very obvious Festool R&D effort in this light - influencing the price.

There are so many little things ... play with it on a flat surface for a while and you'll notice things about the shape that aren't immediately obvious ... like the fact that the sides are not symmetrical ... allowing multiple light projection angles. Sweet!

Yes, we're going to see some clever FOG born improvements.

Yes, after having mine several months, I'll be buying one or two more.

There will be a cheap ripoff or two of this light on the market in the near future - take away the cost of R&D, high levels of warranty and support, etc ... just copy in China and ship in volume. Easy! But don't complain about changing world economics if you ultimately buy a knockoff!
