Accuracy and the MFS as a Squaring Jig

Hi Eiji,

Sure, I would prefer etched scales and would like to see scales on the 2 meter units but neither has stopped me from doing what I wanted to do.  If I ever wear off the markings within the 3 year warrantee period I would likely send them back to Festool.  After that I would likely just buy replacements.  Since Festool seems to be so continuous improvement engineering driven, perhaps in a future upgrade we might see etched scales but I would imagine the cost for tooling is far greater than for silk screening so it seems to me either the volume or the price would have to increase significantly.

Jerry,
Aren't you just a little dissapointed that the scales on the MFS are painted on vs etched?

Thanks,
Eiji

I might worry that etched scales would mess up the smooth movement of a router across the surface. Over time the variance of the etched surface would wear on the router, wouldn't it?

Because I've got 2x MFS 400 and a 700 and 1000's extension set on order I'm trying to find as much relevant info on it to get a handle on the system before it arrives. This thread was an interesting read..
