As said above, it all depends on what you're happy making. Kreg and I live in the same market, and for me to do a 6-day job with $700 in materials, I'd have to charge at least $4,300, which is why I don't do that kind of work for a living currently. If the market here expects to pay +/- $3,300 for that unit and Kreg is happy with that, its tough for me to compete, so I either need to adjust my standard of living, or continue doing what I currently do (or sell my wife and kids....lol).

OR learn how Kreg does it [laughing]

I know how Kreg does it- he charges less per day than I need to.  So, either I'd need to find a clientele who was willing to pay the higher price for my work, or I'd need to reduce my monthly expenses to get to the point of being able to charge less.  Someday when the kids are out of school, the wife is working, and I can work just for beer and Festool money, I'll be set..... [big grin]

I think Kreg should do them for free and eat nuts & berries.

What do you think, Kreg?

Well, he's originally from the Land of Fruits and Nuts, so that's a possibility....

i have also done builtins for the same price that I have done in 4 days... so it averages out, and besides I have over $25,000 of festools that I paid for that I own , so it ain't so bad is it now!

but thanks for all the comments

Kreg,

Thank you for putting yourself out on the limb by letting us know your pricing.  That type of information is invaluable to to those who do various carpentry items.

Thanks Buddy!

I liked the full room shot, you can see how nicely the new work fits in with the house.

and I have money left over for festools !!!  but I have fun and enjoy what I do.

the most important part.
I think pricing is the hardest part of any job, finding a range you are comfortable with, and working everyday is a huge accomplishment.

I don't think the, I have Festool's and set up in their garage and can do it faster then a guy with a shop is not a valid comment.

I could mill the lumber, cut the parts, sand and assemble in a day and a half.  Have a half day in lay out and gathering materials.

I used to try and do everything on site but, realized that it was futile.

I like having these great power tools to take out on the install but, they really cant compete with stationary equipment.

Personally, I would rather charge more, make more and have to work less.

Hell, isn't that aspiration on everybody's wishlist? Me? I'd prefer to go a few more steps than that. I think having to work for a living sucks. If it was up to me, I'd have enough money salted away to support my extravagant lifestyle with the interest and never have to touch the basic investment. Compound interest does have its benefits.

I'm Kreg from Kreg's Custom Carpentry.  I'm loaded so I don't need your money, but I LIKE IT!  [tongue]
