Attn. Festool: TS55 underpowered!

Zipping through the solid end of interior doors with the 48t factory blade. No problems... Seems lemony lol

Could you update what you found was wrong with your saw.  I am having similar problems.  Thanks.

8/4 white oak ? On the rail that's 2 passes as max cut is 1 15/16"  The ts55 just has small heuvos.

That is just obtuse. [eek]

If your primary task is cutting 2" hardwood, then the ts55 isn't the right tool for the job.  That doesn't make the saw under-powered though.

Kinda like my Disston Rip Saw is under-powered doing that same task.  Same with my Shark Saw.  Both will do the job, but not with much aplomb, and there are much better options.  But no one is calling those wimpy, under-powered, ect....

Reminds me of that old adage: "It's a poor craftsman that blames his tools"

@Hosercrue There are some other saws with more power.

Not cutting through < 1" material seems odd unless it is really hard stuff.
so It is likely either alignment, power (cords, wiring, mains browning, etc), a dodgy saw, or technique. But again... some other saws have a bit more power.

Cutting 3/4" melamine with the stock blade.  Saw will shut off momentarily and then start up again.  Have had some instances where the breaker pops as well.  I sent the saw in for service a couple months ago and still having the same problem.

The house power breaker? What vac are you using? If Festool says the saw is good you need to look at your power supply and total load on the line.

Yes, the house breaker.  I don't have a festool vac, using a shop vac.  When I sent it back for service they replaced a bunch of parts.  The saw itself is drawing 13 amps continuously, and then the amps spike and the breaker blows.

The 13A continuous indicates that something is not right. (Unless a major part of the 13A is the vacuum)
It should ramp up and draw very little amps until one starts pushing it into wood.
I am assuming that you were measuring just the saw?

If so, then I would suggest that you send the back in again. It is of little use the way it is.

There is no way in heck that thing draws 13 amps continuously.

My Makita pulls 5.2 amps continuously and the TS 55 pulls less than 5. I verified it two minutes ago.

Sounds like you have a few coils that are shorted in your armature.  This can happen when it is wound and the insulation on the winding coils is not complete.  Does it fluctuate in speed under no load?  Is the motor housing getting warmer to the touch?  If you have someone with a PAT tester, ask them to check the tool for you.

Hold on let me make a cut.

Okay I just cut a 3/4" piece of ply and the Makita went to 11.75  amps, but the saw didn't make any kind of sound that indicated it was pulling any kind of additional power and it cut through almost like cutting air.

If I didn't have a meter on it I would have guessed the way the saw acted that it was pulling maybe an additional 1/2 amp(over the 5+ amps it pulls with no load), so the 11.75 was surprising.  It must be something to do with  the circuitry keeping the saw so smooth and silent while puling more current.

I'll have to pull out some hardwood to test better. My brothers TS 55 isn't here today so that will have to wait. Ill be cutting some Wenge and Ipe later tonight, Ill post up  the current draw on that for the Makita. I also have some wet 2x6 Green treated, that might stress the saw a bit, Ill test that too.

I just tested  the Makita full depth in a 3" slab of SIPO(of course it cant cut through that) the meter read a bit over 16 amps flickering back to 15 amps.

Update.  Just got my saw back from Repair.  Replaced the electronic module.  Hope this does the trick.  Thanks.
