Best drawer slides for systainer cabinets?

I have around 75 systainers and they are stacked on top of each other in 7 different piles.  It's becoming a real pain to constantly dig around to grab the one I want.  While it would be nice to pull the trigger on 20+ sys-ports I would rather waste my money elsewhere.

What is everybody using for plywood boxes to hold the systainers?  Are the sys-az drawers worth the money or should I buy generic slides somewhere else?  I most likely will be building a new metal building sometime end of summer so I will need to eventually move these.  I was thinking modeling the frames off the Sys-port size and just stacking them together.

Anybody ever weld together a sys-port? Just looking for ideas.

Thanks

Sysport size or lower for an under MFT or go with a chaos wall or lower cabinets below saws and tools.  All work!

Use a minimum 16” full extension slide.  They allow the Systainer to clear the front and open.  I order from cshardware.com. Great pricing, service and selection.  1/2” wide on each side.  I seem to recall width of 17” for SysAZ.  There is a PDF on installation you can download if you search FestoolUSA.com.

I like the SysAz drawers and have a few but have also just built drawers.  I usually use 1/4” or 3/16” dowels to register the systainers rather than doing full drawers with sides. Faster and you can use a single bottom from 5/8 or 3/4 ply and four dowels.  Front two drop between the pins for old style Systainer connections in the front.  Rear two do the same on the sides.

One tip... use 32mm system but double up the holes to every 16mm for finer adjustment and more density of Systainers.  You have a lot to store. With the 16mm spacing and the dowel trick you have almost no wasted space.

I use both AZ's and shop made draws. Side mounts are fine for this application.

Agree on the 16mm spacing.

I was looking at some cheap undermount Blum style slides on eBay or side slides. The 22” euro style makes it too deep and wastes space.

I go back and forth on if I feel like making some or just buying the Sys az. It just so expensive for a drawer. But so easy,.,.

Thanks for the responses everybody. Ill probably use the sys AZ for the first box and see how it goes. They aren’t cheap but at less than $50 each I think from a time & material perspective it’s going to be cheaper in the long run instead of building drawers.

I have one stupid question. If I use my LR 32 on the box and space it every 16mm(great idea thanks). How does the sys-az drawers attach to the base with the holes. I’m assuming I’m not using a standard shelf pin for it to rest on? I have never seen one in person.  Is there a certain depth the cabinet needs to be?

Just my 2 cents

Those are 16" KV brand I bought a box of 10 pair from my plywood  supply house for about $100.00

Buy a single Festool drawer slide and decide if you like it. I bought one for a small project and decided that I liked it and I’ll make a larger order in the future.

These are what I used on my sys-ports. They were 14” full extension, and they do clear the front of the cabinet just enough to fully open the lid completely. You can build them out of whatever you wish, I used birch plywood for mine. I was going to try A/C plywood to save some money per sheet. I also drilled mine with the LR32 and I do have a list of how many holes between each for the different size systainers if your interested.

I made my own drawers to hold the systainers using BB 15mm and 8mm dominos. 6mm for the bottom. My local lumber yard sells DSPro Serie 100 14" for $7.50. The 14" are very close fit.

If you plan to order drawer slides online, make sure the shipping is free or not comes too heavy  [blink]

I bought 1270-Z 12" Full Extension with Over-travel 100 lb. Ball Bearing Drawer Slides on Ebay from Gliderite @ 5.49.  I have 20 so far and they are great.  With the drawer all the way out I can open the sys lid fully without removing the sys from the drawer.

[member=25351]rst[/member] what is the Sys sitting on and how is it connected to the slides?

Also, what is the shear panel between uprights?
Did you use 2 flange square tube in the back?
