Im just getting into Festool and so far love it. Im about to purchase a domino DF500Q plus the domino assortment pack. there are 2 different ones for sale on ebay right now and it looks like the trim stops are different. one has the old sustainers and thats the one with the old trim stop. my question is about the the advantages or the disadvantages of the different trim stops. buying used saves me a couple hundred but i don't get any warranty so Im not necessarily sold on buying used. and the other question is  should I be worried about not getting the warranty with this tool?

As I recall, the old trim stops will only work on the original Domino 500 while the new trim stops will work on the 500 or the newer 700XL.  I seem to recall there is a different adjustment mechanism for the trim stops on the newer ones to accommodate the XL.

I've had Festools for maybe 7 years and have only had one warranty claim for a magnet that fell out of a drill chuck.  I've found the tools to be extremely reliable.

That said, the tools are warranted for three years and the warranty will transfer to the new purchaser if it is less than 3 years.  You might ask the seller about the tool age.  I have purchased some of my Festools from other owners via eBay as well as via the classified section on FOG.  Never had any issues but I would ask the seller for photos as well to make sure they have been reasonably well cared for.

Welcome to the FOG!

I wouldn't worry about the trim stops.  I would however buy the newer Domino.  A couple reasons.  New T-loc systainer is better then the classic style.

Plus, it's a newer model, so it should be worry free.  But you never know what the previous owner has done to it.   Which is the risk you take buying a used

tool on Ebay.   The Domino is a well engineered machine.  Their are a lot of working parts moving around inside.  I would want a warranty to give me a little

piece of mind.  Check to see if the seller is offering a money back guarantee.

The one thing I like about my Domino is the pins.  The older models have pins to index the domino while the new models have paddles.  You will find that

each guy on the FOG would prefer one over the other.  I understand that buying a Domino off ebay will save you some money

(to put towards another tool)  [wink] but just check that the seller has a money back guarantee.

For what it's worth, I bought my Domino a couple years ago when Festool had a recondition sale.  It came with a one year guarantee.  I have had Zero

problems with it.  Hope this helps.

thanks guys for the quick responses. the older one, plus the domino assortment pack, and an extra bag of domino's is $900. which I like but no money back guarantee. appears to be in excellent condition though. the newer one with the assortment pack is $980  and has a money back guarantee. plus its located in chicago which is where Im at so I think Im gonna go for it.

btw I think I might be wrong about different trim stops. one guy took a picture of the top and the other took a picture of the bottom. so i got worried over nothing i think. but I appreciate your input. thanks again.
