C18 magnetic chuck?

This may seem like a strange question.. So I have two CXS drills and the chuck (without the centrotec chuck attached) is magnetic, so it holds the bit in tightly with the force of the magnet.

I received a C18 today and notice that it does not have this feature, so that even with the centrotec bits being uses, there is still a little play front to back with the bits. I was wondering if this is common with these drills. I also noticed it was made in Czech Republic. All my other Festools are made in Germany

Here are a couple pictures which might help my question make more sense.

The CXS has the magnet, red arrow is pointing at it. The C18 does not. Can anyone else with a C18 verify that theirs is the same? [attachimg=1][attachimg=2]

This is correct. The C18 & T18 lack the magnet. A bit crap but not a deal breaker for me.

The C&T18 used to be made in Germany. Your report is the first time I’ve heard of the change. My two T18s are both Germany (most recent one 18 months old). The PDC was always made in Czech after the switch from protool colours as protools we’re always made there.

How do you find the C18? I love the CXS but always found the extra weight & size of the C18 made it too front heavy for my tastes. Especially with the regular chuck attached.

Seems like a strange design decision. How hard is it to put a little magnet in there.

I like the C18, I would say that if I had to use it all day it would become fatiguing, but with the 3.1 battery it doesn't feel very heavy. I hold it same way I hold the CXS. I have a Milwaukee Fuel M18 drill and impact for heavy duty work and use this in the shop.

Since when do they lack the magnet? Six year ago they did have it (I think)?!?

The bit stays in due to some form of retention, but it’s not a magnet. I’ve had t18s for 6+ years.
