Carvex pendulum fix

Nice video, I'm gonna see if I can find that threaded pin he got and fix my Carvex.

I still can't wrap my head around the fact that Festool makes so much well engineered, brillaint tools, and do this jigsaw so incredibly bad.

Mind you, they soon realised how bad their first try, the PS400, was and then made their second try, the PS420 only just marginally better, but still utterly crap. It's like they're not even trying. [doh]

I saw that video a week or so ago. Looks interesting, but I'm not sure I want to dig that deep into my Carvex?

I saw it posted on the Facebook SawStop group when someone asked about the Carvex. I didn't even realize my Carvex had a problem until I saw that video. [lol]

Mine has always had the slop and I originally got it from the recon sale a few years back. A fix is in order and dare I say a factory fix from Festool on all these etc. I am not sure how that pin is supposed to stay put if not mechanically fixed like he said either with threads or glue. It's a simple enough task from watching the video but the problem seems ubiquitous.

As a Moderator I am supposed to tell all to not modify your tools or post about your modifications here.

Taking that hat off, I saw that video thru Facebook and actually ordered the pins.  They are sitting on my MFT wondering if I will use one.

My concern with that video is that it did not speak to how it affected the adjustable orbital action.  Also once that new part is put in place and if it doesn't work then there isn't a way to go back to what you had.

So in other words, I found it tempting but have chickened out at least temporarily.

Does this fix effect use of the oscillation function?

No, the osiclation function goes backwards from the point at which the blade is held in the straight position, creating the oscillating action

Can't find 4x12 screws on Amazon - closest is 4x10. He mentions 3-4 mm protruding after install. Wondering if 10 will fit?

I'm SO ready to try - if this fix WORKS it would be like getting a free Mafell with soft start and strobe light!

Looking forward to the moment 4 years from now when I can't remember why I have 19 of these things in my desk drawer.....

Right? I ordered some yesterday and was thinking the same thing.

If anyone wants one of the extras, PM me an address and I'll drop one in the mail for you.

I think I've got some stamps somewhere...

Really? Did you buy some "forever" stamps and just wait to get the most value out of them? LOL

I'm positive there's an old sheet of them in a garage bin next to some old flip phones and couple Walkman :D

This was one of the funniest things I read tonight.  [big grin]

We're cleaning out my grandmother-in-law's house; I haven't seen that many stamps with actual cent values since I cleaned out the junk boxes I still had from my college dorm...  I wonder if I could put 58 of the "makeup" stamps on a single envelope and get away with it...  I think I have the 2-cent makeup stamps, too.  Those'll come in handy this July...

BTW, it would be nice to have the input of a Festool engineer on this issue and fix, esp. re. pros and possible cons of the fix. Please Festool managers, allow one of your technical employees to speak on this. Or could you provide a similar fix freely (i.e. through a recall) to the owners?

Gentlemen-

If you do this mod, and the blade eject jams up...... Back it off a couple threads.  JFC that was frustrating to figure out.

I also had to clearance the housing a tiny bit, the 12mm length was a little much.  No big deal.  If I take this god forsaken thing apart again, I'm going to drill a thru-hole so I can adjust the tension without disassembly.

These can be bought at numerous places with better stock than Amazon. Search for K0384.10410 if you want M4x10

Well, at least the PS 300 became cheaper after the Carvex arrived. I bought a PS 300 mainly because I was afraid it would disappear  [tongue] and didn't want the Carvex(' price tag).
