Caulking Entrance Door

Wow time flies. Fifteen years ago I built an entrance door with sidelights for our house out of white oak. I've refinished the trim and wood around the sidelight a few times but it's gotten to the point that I need to paint the exposed wood. The door looks great because it is protected by a storm door.

I had clear caulk in all the exterior joints. I removed it all in prep for painting and now am wondering do all the exterior joints need to be caulked? Not looking to save work just want to do it right.

Thanks
Mike

My understanding is caulk sticks to primer.
If it were my job I'd primer everything and then caulk everything.

Hopefully our betters will enlighten us.

Best of luck!

As a glazing contractor for 40+ years, my recommendation is to use a good urethane caulk, sikaflex or equal  after painting.  I am not a fan of ready available caulk especially if needing to paint.
