CMS modules

Your dealer is referring to the CMS-GE, I believe is the European model designation.  It won't have interchangeable inserts for tools and only accepts the routers.  Don't expect to see much in the way of inserts for saws of any type or table saws in the U.S. until the manufacturers, insurance companies and federal government get done with the safety and legal issues.

As I understand CMS-GE is basic table without inserts.  We'll see only router inserts here, but you can buy some other inserts overseas.

as mentioned above, +1 for tool-save in the UK. thats who i purchased my cms from.

excellent and fast service.

Here's a thought. If we get 10 people who want a cms, and each person pays $100 extra, that would pay for a flight to England for someone to go and ship them to everyone.

20 people and it's a nice little profit. You could be there and back in less than a day and there's a Festool dealer less than 30 minutes from Heathrow! It would help to have the paperwork all sorted out before going, and you could ask the dealer to package everything for shipping.

Sounds like a FOG project to me!

You just want to go back because you forgot some goodies!  [wink]

haha, not me matey. I don't mind the small stuff like Toolies but a dozen CMS tables is seriously out of my league!

Maybe a UK FOGger could take on the project?

Coordinate the order on the phone, fly over, "pick it up", coordinate with a shipper to pick up the skid / pallet, and send it by the slowest, cheapest boat possible to your home.  Fly back after a long weekend.  Get home, parcel out everyone's order, and slowboat it again to minimize the second round of shipping costs, and folks here are happy campers.  There are TONS of ways to pay these days, almost anyone can take a credit card, paypal, good old fashioned checks, even wads of cash...

Edit to add: this way you can get your VAT back as well.

This is what I was offering to look into in my previous message. I need to check with my dealer to ensure they are registered with Retail Export Scheme (to allow for the VAT reclaim) and also note the process is different if you don't travel with the goods, different process and paperwork, since customs will often want to inspect the goods you want to recalim the VAT for. Difference is that there won't be any need for the $100. If its possible to get the VAT back, then vs the hassle of multiple shipping, I think the shipping is about £200 for a set (VL-MFT, Router, Jigsaw and TS modules) which would seem worth it (would take about 3-4 days to deliver from the UK). I could always look into a pallet option to one of you guys to then re-send in the US. Like I said, if I get a few PM re interest then will look into this further for those interested.

Whats in it for me? Well I help a few FOG'ers out, and hope my Fest. dealer might throw a few boxes of sand paper my way by way of thanks.

Shot a few short videos with a helmet camera whilst using the CMS yesterday. I hope they will show some of the features of the CMS router module. If you have any questions, fire away.

In the first one I am routing some sliding dovetails using the fence.

In the second one I remove the fence and set up the guide for curved work.

In the third one, I am doing some template routing.

In my opinion the CMS system is so useful, it would be a good reason to start an Occupy Festool movement.  ;D

probably more appropriate to 'occupy UL'

I am not sure about that shipping estimate, the CMS- GE with four legs and three modules can cost over GBP400 to ship to the east coast via fedex.
