I’ve been needing these for a long time. I finally got my hands on a set of Compression Jaws and posted a video on my blog.

So with these plastic parts you are adding in-accuracy to your measurement, since controlling the pressure is not good.

Why not go over to metric system so you will directly know what you have measured!
- or if you insists using inches, why not a decimal version of it?

I have in fact moved over to decimal inches for precision work and am enjoying it. I am comfortable using metric for smaller dimensions, but most of my tooling remains in imperial sizes.

I’ve gotten hooked on a machinist video series, Abom79. He spends unlimited time machine parts down to tiny fractions of a thousandths. He measures multiple times after every cut. These compression jaws would be an incredible time saver. Just get the size close and compress to the desired measurement.

Can I get these jaws for my Starrett micrometer?

The DIY version for a micrometer could be as simple as a couple of balls of soft cheese.

with ball detent for smooth operation

Love it! Or maybe magnets embedded at the desired increments. Magnets make everything more marketable!
