Confused: Rip "Dogs" for precise crosscuts and parallel systems

Hi all,

Still in the procurement stage of the Festool system and am getting ready to start my first project with the MFT/Complete, SYS-MFT FX Clamping set, and TS55.

While trying to decide between the Seneca+Incra, Festool Parallel Guide Set, and Rip Guides Parallel system I stumbled across the Rip Dogs which claim to help with making precision 90 degree crosscuts.

At first I was very confused because they sell Rip Dogs, Guides, and Stops, and I thought people were using the terms interchangeably on this forum for the same product, but they do indeed appear to be different.

I *think* I've decided on the Seneca+Incra Complete set for parallel cuts. Does that sound like a good choice?

Will someone please explain what these Rip "Dogs" are for, and how they ensure precise 90 and 45 degree cuts?

I feel stupid asking this question but do I already have something similar to the rip "dogs" in the SYS-MFT FX clamping set?

Seneca is a good choice. Very sturdy.

The rip dogs simply use the CNC'd hole pattern on the mft to configure per use 90 and 45 degree cuts.  Other angles are possible as well depending on how you position the dogs in the holes.

John -

I have the Seneca guides and have been really happy with them.  They are accurate, durable and repeatable.  I use them with both 18" t-slots and longer 36" t-slots.

I also have the Festool guides but actually prefer the Seneca ones - primarily because they are shorter with the different lengths of t-track and thus easier to handle, particularly when you get to longer lengths of rail

Welcome to FOG!

The complete set also has a bracket that can attach the stock MFT guide fence to one of the tall dogs, then the other end is aligned @ 90 or 45 degrees to the guide rail with a short dog. You can also pivot the fence to most any angle and clamp it in place for angled cuts using the guide fence clamp thet comes with the MFT.

They started out as a hobby project that kinda grew larger on me, I could do a better job explaining their use on the website, sorry for any confusion. Feel free to EM or PM me if you have any questions.

Thanks,

RMW
