I have a CT-26 & Kapex when used together only 45%+/- dust colected what am I doing wrong?? Using the 26 with my 55 all is well 96%+ colection.
Thanks for any help: Cliff(SC)

Cliff,

What size hose?  If a D27, consider a D36.  It works better to suck up the amount of sawdust that a Kapex can produce.

Regards,

Dan.

Like Dan asked, can we get more details such as hose size. Can you confirm the CT's suction is turned all the way up? Did you check the hose for obstructions? Is the bag full?

Also, how did you come to the 45% figure? Did you try it with and with dust extraction?

Just trying to gather more information to help you out so please don't take it as criticism.

When I first got my kapex I wasn't so impressed with the dust collection, I'm using the kapex with the ct22. I then purchased the 36mm hose which helped out alot.  You will see in time that changing the way you cut material has a large affect on the dust collection.  I can't imagine using a saw without dust collection and my clean up is very minimum at the end of the day.

When I thought the dust collection was just ok I tried the kapex without the ct22. With-in 2 cut the saw was completely covered with dust. Swing that really shows just how much the vac collects.

IME, dust collection on the Kapex is best with thicker material.  The dust shroud doesn't cover 1x material laid down face to table, letting a lot of dust escape between the material and the shroud.  If you do a lot of finish work and pretty much only cut 1x material, consider putting a sacrificial table on the Kapex to raise the work.  This helps make dust collection more efficient.

A year ago I purchased the Mr Nozzle 25'kit from Lee Valley.  The hose is 1.5" (close enough to 36mm).  It makes a huge difference.  I use it now almost exclusively with the router, TS, and Kapex.  The only time I pull the small D hose is for sanding.

I'm using the hose that came with the 26 (D27?) looking on line for a D36, the bag is only 35-50% full and yes use on auto all the way on. The hose was & is clear. How will the D36 help if the ct-26 will not pull.

You can see all of the anti-static hoses here, diameter in the product name:

http://www.festoolusa.com/accessories/dust-extractors/antistatic-hoses.html

3.5 meter, 452882, $135
5 meter, 452884, $160
7 meter, 452886, $200

And, non-anti-static here:

http://www.festoolusa.com/accessories/dust-extractors/nonantistatic-hoses.html

Might I suggest looking at a cleaning set that has a 36mm hose included. It's a better value since you get all of the cleaning tubes and attachments for not more than the hose by itself.

Cliff,

The D36 moves a lot more air than the D27.  If you get a D36, make sure that you get the antistatic version.

OK Shane,
I,m looking at 477700 Will that give me what I need? or do I need to order 487721 to go with it?

Try this:  When cutting with the Kapex plugged in to the CT and the CT set to Automatic, it pays to pull the Kapex arm all the way out and let the blade run for one or two seconds to give the CT the opportunity to develop suction at the Kapex.  Then cut normally and give the blade the chance to stop spinning while still in the down position.  This not only provides for better cut edges but also lets the CT remove all the dust it wants to and keeps the spinning blade from spreading dust around.'

With this procedure, a 36mm hose and zero clearance insert and fence, I get over 90% dust collection with the CT 22.  Letting the CT ramp up might take that extra few seconds, but I prefer the result over having to clean up dust.
