Somewhere to put the tool down in between cuts. Goes on and comes off in seconds with a few turns of the wing nut, made in minutes from leftovers so it cost next to nothing and a very safe and handy place that is on the dust extractor (+ Dust Deputy) to store a tool.

The handle for the CT36 is brilliant and is well worth the £50. I leave the brake on my CT on permanently and when I need to move the extractor I tilt it back slightly and wheelie it around the workshop on the back wheels.

That looks like a great place for putting the tool to rest ! Could I ask what's on the hoses that makes them look smooth and less likely to get caught up please ?

Cheers

Woodwork Wizard,

Great idea! I am going to build one of these for mine because that is where my saw lives and I have the same set up as you. You have the dimensions handy?

Thanks much
Jack

Great idea.  I want to make something like that.  Nice to have somewhere to put the tool when not in use.

Thanks for the link, it looks like it might be just the job for stopping  the hose getting caught on the edges of stuff I'm sanding. Just out of curiosity do you find its fairly hardwearing, or will it be something that needs replacing fairly often ?
Thanks again.
Coley

The hose sleeve is very durable and I can't see having to replace it for ages if ever. It is brilliant stuff and I highly recommend it. Way cheaper than the Festool version too.

That's what I was hoping to hear ! Apologies for the thread hijack but I've been searching for the holygrail of extractor hose for years- I think you've just pointed me in the right direction!!! If this stops it from getting caught, I won't need to worry about a boom arm arrangement.
Thanks
Coley

The hose sleeve is great and doesn't get caught on things. If you were thinking of getting a boom arm try a pole about 4' above the workbench with the hose draped over it. It works a treat. See recent posts for more info...

Woodwork Wizard,

I built a similar tool storage shelf based on your idea here. I have a CT22 and apparently there is less room between the handle of the CT and the handle of the UDD as a 3/4" piece of plywood would not fit. I only have 1/4" clearance so I cut a dado to compensate. Great idea! I just wished you had thought of this a long time ago.

Thanks again,
  Jack

Nice one Claimdude, I'm glad it works well for you. I have modified many things to suit my needs more and this one is certainly one to keep as it's making room of unused space and is a very safe place to leave a tool. Really simple and it can be removed or installed in 30 seconds.

That is a great idea (in both shops).

I do see a problem (an either/or type)

You either have to reach around and over the saw shelf and around the hoses to reach the CT controls; or you have to reach around the CT all the CT hoses and the DD to get at the Shelf.  Don't you find a problem with that?

The way I use mine I am never behind the CT needing to reach around front. I am left handed so when I put the saw up it is on the left side and the 50 mm hose has a strap around it holding it back. Very nice fit and nothing in the way.

It works really well for me too and I find it very useful.

Claimdude - When I saw the picture of your set up I thought I was looking at mine somewhere else it looks so similar.

By raising the DIY tool table a few inches there's somewhere to store the hose when changing tools (see photo) and the UDD is far easier to open to check if it needs emptying. Before I raised it I had to remove the entire thing as it was just above the UDD, now I can just open the catch on one side of the UDD and see how full it is.

Thanks Woodwork. However, I have a CT 22 with boom arm. I don't have nearly as much room between my handle and the back edge of the UDD as you do. Raising the platform directly impacts the width of the platform and if I raised it even an inch the platform would not be wide enough for the saw. It is a pain to get it off and put it on though.
