CT hose options

Following up on an earlier post, I settled on a midi vac but now I have a hose question. I’m going with the festool vac to improve on my shop vac but mostly so I can get a festool sander down the road. I also have a domino and a makita tracksaw that I plan to use plus whatever else I may get in the future but this is to be used primarily at a bench/ fixed location in my shop. I made a home-made boom arm fixed to wall near my bench and I figure I need about 18’ of hose to route the hose to the farthest I expect to use it.

It seems to me I should get the 3.5m  36mm anti-static sleeved hose to go with the hose that comes with the midi. It’s longer than I need but I don’t see any shorter options. I could also get the smaller diameter but figure the bigger hose allows more configurations, for example it might work better with a tracksaw if I don’t use the boom arm and just use the 36 mm hose.

Am I thinking correctly here? Is there something else I should be looking at?

I think that your thought process is solid but I do have one question. If I understand you correctly you are going to be using theses hoses hooked together to attain the full length that you need, right? If that is the case why pay the extra for the sleeved hose. Won’t you end up with one hose sleeved and the other not? I would think that under most circumstances you would hook the larger hose up to the vac and the smaller diameter hose up to the tool since the smaller diameter hose is much easier to manipulate as it is much more flexible. Especially with Festool sanders, you are going to want the smaller hose on the tool. You could buy the adapter and be able to attach the larger hose to the sanders and the Domino but that hose is bulkier and more difficult to manipulate, IMO.

End to end - yes. Sleeved? I mean the green anti-static hose like the one that comes with the midi. I didn’t mean the one with the white sleeve. I got that description from Hartville Tool website where the green was was labeled as sleeved anti-static. I’m figuring I need to stay anti-static end to end because I plan on buying a sander if they ever come available again.

So I figure my options are
- get any hose that will work and rig-up or ignore anti-static
- get another 3.5 m hose same diameter
- get a larger diameter 3.5 m hose

Seems like the trade-off between 2/3 is about $50 give or take but the pro side to that is I would have a larger diameter hose to use with my tracksaw or ??? if I don’t use my boom arm. I really only need about 5’ more hose but here I am rationalizing a $200 flipping vacuum hose. That’s Festool I suppose and if I’m in for a penny I’m in for a pound. I figured if I post here people won’t try to talk me out of spending $200 for a few extra feet of hose (as opposed to a general WW forum). Or possibly there is a cheaper solution that I haven’t thought of.

I'm doing exactly what you're describing.  The 36mm hose DOES do a better job on the TS.  And it fits the big end of the 27mm hose with no adapters (or at least, it fits the one I have from the CT26)

It's a good system.  The 36mm hose on the boom only really gets used with tools that go on the track, so it's fine.  The handheld tools need more reach, so adding the extra hose on works perfectly.

Whatever you do it really is worth considering a cyclone I use the mafell extractors and recently purchased the one Onedian cyclone to connect to the mafell which is brilliant and saves hugely on both my expensive bags and even more expensive pre filters , I hardly get anything through to the bag as all the heavy sawdust ends up in the cyclone drum !.

[member=77580]ajkoontz[/member] - Ok, I got it! I thought you were talking about that white sleeve with the power cord in it. So that brings me to another question. Is your existing hose the newer smooth style hose or the older style hose with the ridges? The newer style smooth sided hoses are more flexible than the old style hoses and are really quite good. The 36mm is a bit bulky for smaller tools like a sander but the smooth sided hoses are tons better than their predecessors with the ridges. Your only problem might be that if your current hose is of the older style with the ridges and you buy the new 36mm smooth sided hose, you may like the new hose so much that you then want to go buy a new 27mm hose of the new style😊.

I don’t have a hose yet, or the vac for that matter, but before I plop down my money I want to try to get the best bang for the buck. The 27mm hose comes with the midi so if I buy a 36 mm it should mate right to that and give me a larger hose option if needed. I think I already knew the answer just wanted to confirm or see if there was a better option. But to your point, it will be all smooth anti static hose from tool to vac.

Understood! No matter what, you are going to love having those two hoses. I have the older ribbed versions of both of those hoses and they are great! I don’t think that I have ever put them together as the need has never come up but I’m sure that will be fine!

Scored a lightly used Midi on FB for $500 so pretty happy about that. Ordered some bags and the 36-32 mm hose which should arrive today. BT switch on back-order.

Now I'm waiting for the sanders to get off of back-order and I will be set for a while I think.

+1 on two hoses. Taking some good advice from folks on here, I added a 36mm to my 27mm a few months ago. Both do a stellar job, but for different applications;

27mm - Perfect for most tasks, direct-fit for almost all my non-Festool equipment (Mirka sander, Makita 190mm mitre saw, biscuit jointer & belt sander, Hilti grinder, Fein multi tool & Mafell jigsaw). All non-fits are taken care of via a rubber Nilfisk adaptor.

36mm - Perfect for high-debris-generators. OF2200, Makita 1/4” router, TS55, DeWalt 305mm mitre saw, Draper planer. Super, no-clog solution for job cleanup with the standard cleaning set.
