CXS and/or C12

I purchased the CXS drill and I'm exceptionally pleased with it. The only issue is that I can't get several of the chucks that are available for the other drills.

I handled the C15 at Woodcraft yesterday and it's too big and bulky for me. I've got some large DeWalt drills for the heavy duty work.

The C12 felt good in my hands and I'm tempted to buy it with the full set and with the drill stop chuck.

If Festool offered all their chucks with the CXS, I would not be considering the C12.

Any advice?

Without knowing the intended purpose, it's a little hard to give solid advice.

CSX and C12 are probably a little close functionally if they're competing for the same application ... but if you're drilling with one and screwing with the other, they could be a great combo.

Also consider the T12.

I didn't know there was any difference in the grip on the C12 vs C15. We're both drills Litheon battery models?

The C12 is still a 10.8 volt battery and motor just like the CXS. If you are looking to add a more powerful drill, I would go with the T15 or T18 as a set. In the T series it is only $50 more for the 15 over the 12.

The CXS was never designed to be the do-all drill as it is for maximum portability and convenience. I have the CXS and T15 and they both get used a lot.

Did you get the CXS set? The CXS has his own angle chuck and can also use the other drills jacobs chuck. The chucks it can't take are the excenter chuck and drywall chuck, you don't need the ex center chuck on the CXS and it's too light for drywalling as the chuck would make it fall over.

The C12 is a lot smaller and lighter than the C15. It's in between the CXS and C15. If I could get the drill stop chuck for the CXS, I'd be a happy camper. The eccentric chuck looks  interesting, but it's not a deal breaker.

I do home remodeling, custom carpentry, and cabinetmaking and have found that the CXS and C12 combo has been everything Ive ever wanted. The other drills are too heavy, Eric

Somewhere here there is a comparison of the eccentric on either a C or T drill versus the CXS.  The reason Festool did not make that available for the CXS is that because of the narrow / small size of the CXS drill body the placement of the tip is almost the same as one of the other drills with the special chuck.

I was surprised how big and heavy the C15 felt. I've got a DeWalt 18v drill that feels lighter and better balanced.

I did buy the CXS set. I used the right angle chuck and was very pleased how easy it was to use.

I'm 90 percent sure I'll buy the C12 set.

I bought the T12 a couple of weeks ago as was fed up of using my impact driver for smaller screws.

I toyed with the cx but decided that was probably more suited to cabinet work, I didn't want anything to big though, but wanted to be able to drive the odd larger screw with it, so went for the T12, I can't give a good review as I haven't used it enough yet.

That said it beats the impact driver hands down for control of the screw whilst driving

Surprisingly (according to the catalog) the C15 is almost a pound heavier than the C12. That is a significant differance. The C12 will is pretty much going to be an all purpose drill/driver much more so than the CXS. And the C12 is still pretty compact. It won't fit in a pocket like the CXS though  [big grin]  The C12 can get into tight quarters due to chucks and features.

If you look carefully at the specs, it won't be such a surprise ;), it comes with lower Ah batteries. ( the T12 (and of course the C15) comes with the higher Ah batteries as standard)

I've only tried the c12/15's in the store, are they actually differently shaped?

I find the cxs handle quite different from the other C handles. When triggering the cxs with the middle finger the index is inline with the centre of the drill body (the main advantage of the C isnt it?). With the C12/15 there is a blank space and the trigger below that, in addition, the top of the handle at the back only comes up part way up the drill body making it not possible to line your index finger down the side.

If that makes any sense. In other words I find you cant choke up high enough on the C12/15 as with the cxs which is what makes the cxs so comfortable.

Yes, the surprising part is that I wouldn't have thought the difference in weight to be that much with LIoN batteries.
