Did you know this about the 500?

I have been using the domino 500 for years and only a day or two ago I discovered why some of my joints were crap! Have a look here for a simple fix. You may already know it but hey, life is busy and I didn't! Click here to find out.

I wonder why the 500 doesn't have the same pin stop system as the 700. Seems like the better option.

The hex key should come with the machine as I pointed out here though not everyone found it necessary:https://www.festoolownersgroup.com/...ck-saw-clogging-question/msg698772/#msg698772

I have never retracted the stop latches/spring stops for the reason you described, but I've done that a few times, including when I set up the machine on the Veritas Domino Joinery Table:

I find it easier to use a straight edge against the DF500 without the hindrance of the spring stops.

I was told that the original DF500 pin design was infringement of the Mafell patent. The current size of the DF500 is too small to adopt the DF700 pin feature, I reckon.

I think I learned that from [member=3513]PaulMarcel[/member] in one of his Youtube videos, years ago. He showed both pin and paddle type heads, as they are interchangeable. I learned a ton from him and in no small way blame credit him for my problem.

Here's to hoping the potentially upcoming DF600 (or whatever it's called) will use the DF700's updated tech where it can.

ha! sorry about your problem. I've been accused of this at least a couple times...

I have nothing new to review... latest additions were years ago: CMS w/router table, Vac-SYS, BS-75, original Vecturo... all discontinued or NANIA at least.

I have the first generation pin stop fence.  No way to retract the pins like the paddles.

I have both fences and greatly prefer the pin fence. I have spacers that slip over the pins to center the mortise on common widths. Not that dead-center is necessary, but it sure makes batching out a bunch of stuff infinitely faster.
