domino mortises seem too tight

All of my dominoes have a very poor fit. Thi machine is great but the sizing of the tenons is terrible.  I think when my tenons are gone I will just make my own.  As it is now I make adjustments to all of them with a block plane.

Jef, there is truly something wrong in your case too  [crying]!!!  Put the block plane down & don't even try to make your own dominos. Ask someone smarter than me about these things but I'm sure there is a solution that might involve new cutters or an adjustment on your machine.

Hi,

The exact size of the Dominos will vary depending on how much moisture is in them. It takes very little change to make them really tight. Just try drying them out a little and I think you will find they will go in.

Also I have had a  similar thing happen to the mortise when cut and left overnight during humid conditions. The mortise can pick up moisture around the inside after it is cut and thus get a bit smaller.

Like I said it doesn't take much change because the Dominos are so precise.

Never would have thought about the mortise swelling overnight. I'll find out soon enough though, I have a bunch of open mortises in some doors & panels I have yet to assemble & we are in the midst of 3 rainy days. Good to go in forewarned. Thanks Seth.

It may or may not happen in any given situation, depends how tight the fit was to begin with. But I discovered this when I did a dry fit one day and the glue up the next. The Dominos had been in the same container and conditions for many days so i do not think it was the Dominos themselves.
