OK, here I am, new to the FOG and (almost) new to the Festool Domino.  I have one ordered from Bob Marino (based upon the comments here that were very favorable toward him).  While I am waiting, what should I be reviewing, viewing, reading, pondering, etc.?

Once it comes, what advice to you have?  Are there things I should know about or do, or do I just 'take the plunge' (bad pun....sorry)?

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

Warren,

I would suggest downloading Rick Chrispoherson's manual as well as Jerry Work's article. Both are very, very helpful. Check out the on-line videos, write ups and John Lucas's demo/reviw. When you get the tool, have some scrap boards cut up and ready to practice on.

There is a section of the Festool Owners Group that is called the Reference Library, and inside there you will find a "Consolidated List of Festool Links" which has over 280 links to on-line reviews, brochures, manuals, videos etc of Festool-related kit.

There are over 30 links for the Domino, which are listed under "Routing, DF500...", and by clicking on the links you'll find a wealth of information about the machine, including all those mentioned by Bob Marino.

I suspect they will give you enough reading material until the machine arrives, and by the time you get to open the parcel, you should be pretty familiar with how the machine works and what all the adjustments are for.

You should get yourself a sheet of 3/4" MDF, then cut it into representative shapes and sizes.  Then practice, practice, practice.  The Domino is an exceptionally precise tool and takes some getting used to.  I had a lot of issues with mine that were very frustrating until I realized that most of them were caused by operator error (I also had a pin misalignment problem that was quickly fixed by Bob Marino and FestoolUSA).
