Domino Raffles (1/25/07 - 3/2/07)

I've gotta say that I wait with more anticipation for subsequent drawings than I've ever had for a purchased lottery ticket.

And I notice Mr. Ward lives somewhere in my neck of the woods (I'm about 20 miles north of SF). Wonder if he'd mind a visitor when I start assembling some chairs I've got ideas for...

Thanks for the support and envy.  I was all prepared to be depressed by not winning, even though I was going to buy one, so would have one anyway....  But winning something puts a value on it all out of proportion to it's cost -- don't know why, but I'm relishing it.  And you all have 4 more chances!

Yes Dan you can come visit and try it out as I start my first project (went out and bought the wood yesterday for a Greene and Greene style sofa table).  And I promise to put in photos of progress.

Here's the 40 bf of superior Alder ;8/4, 5/4, 4/4 and 2 lbs of ebony, awaiting the Domino.  Well, I have to do some detailed drawings and a little milling first.

Can't wait.

Mike

+1 on the potential spam filter. I entered the 26th of January and still am not on your list??? Sent off another email entry this evening.

Texirish -- I received your entry on 2/1/07.  So you're in!
Woodenfish -- Are you sure you're sending it to MatthewSchenker@FestoolOwnersGroup.com?  My spam filters are now off, so try it again.  Just don't tell anyone I turned my spam filters off!!!
dan-imal -- Same comments as above.

I'm posting another entry list today.  If you don't see your names on it, then please send me a personal message through the forum, and I'll add you that way.

Stay in touch,
Matthew

Well, CONGRATULATIONS are in order to Thomas Gordon on winning the second Domino!

And for the rest of us...  only three left!  Good luck.

Corwin

Matthew,
I have tried to enter the raffle 4 times via email and was very dissapointed that I was not part of the last drawing even though I had enter before the deadline. Please add me.

Warrior

Warrior,
You have entered the raffle at least two times.

Check the list of raffle entries I posted yesterday.  Your 2/10/07 entry appears on page 2, under the name "Fullerbuilt."  Your previous entry, from 2/8/07, was listed under the name "Joon Fuller."

Everyone, please check the list of entrants carefully.  It is in alphabetical order.  Since all entries are listed according to e-mail, if your e-mail address has a name attached to it, that is the name that will show up on the entry.

Thanks everyone,
Matthew

Mike,

In reference to your post,

"So, I hope there is some slight system to not only limit the winners to one per household, but also limit the entry's to one per member, and no bogus members.  Ideas?"

When looking at the members list, it appears there are a number of folks who just dropped by to sign up so they would be eligible to win the Domino. :o The drawings at SMC have a stipulation that the person drawn must reply within 48 hours, I believe, to receive the prize. The winners name is announced in the original post for the drawing. Not sure if it's ethical to change the rules now but this probably should be done for the next, hopefully there is a next, drawing. ::)

Not sure how to handle the people who enter under multiple email addresses. ??? Perhaps Matthew can sort the DB by address or phone number to pare the list.

I thought about this after we got the raffles going, but felt uncomfortable changing the rules.  Luckily, the first two winners did reply within 48 hours!

As far as multiple entries go, I have asked people to voluntarily let me know if they sent in more than one.  I have discovered a few people who entered the same e-mail address more than once.  Some people entered multiple times with more than one e-mail address.  In those cases, I have manually deleted the duplicate entries.

We now have about 735 entries, and it would be massively time consuming for me to go through and find all duplicates.  Like any online raffle, there are ways for people to get around the rules if they are determined.  It's not perfect, but I don't know what else to do.

If someone has suggestions for the final three raffles, pleased let me know!

Giggle. You mean beyond "just rig it in my favor", right?  ;D

Yeah, it's a give-away, it'd be great if it was fair and just and every vote got counted and all of that, but the reality is that some people are going to manipulate the system, you're only human (and so far as I can tell you're providing this forum for roughly free), and, hey, if I get a Domino I'll be overjoyed and sing the praises of my tool often and loudly (did I mention that my web site has a Google PageRank of 6?:)), but if not then my world hasn't changed all that much.

I guess what I'm saying is "Thanks so much for all your efforts, they're very appreciated", and when things are getting given away there'll always be perceived injustice and issues.

Matthew, I wouldn't change the rules after the start, this would just make a good target for criticism whether warranted or not.

Thanks guys.  I'll try to post some photos of the first project with the Domino.  I just have to figure out what to build first.

Ya know, I'd be happy to keep it for you 'til you do... I've got several ideas for projects that'll benefit!

Congrats, you lucky dog.

I think its cool, winners are getting there Dominos already, for some reason I thought they would ship after the first of April.
The people that are winning these, are quite lucky just by winning, and it will be cool to say 20 years from now " I had one of the first Dominos in America 8)"
By then there will be Ryobi Knock off's in every "home" super store.  :D
CONGRATULATIONS!! to all the winners.

Mirko
