domino with stop pins or domino with stop latches?

Which is the new model and which do you prefer?  Any and all comments welcomed. Thanks.

Hello every one

I have the old version of the domino (with the pins) and I use them quite often with "shop made " spacers.
I noticed that one of the pins is not moving back and forth as smoothly as the other one. Is this a common problem!

Welcome to the Festool Owners Group!

I don't think I've ever heard of a problem with sticking pins. Depending on the answers you get, you might want to contact Festool service to get it sorted.

Forrest

Thank you Forrest

I will try to fix the problem when I go back to work ( I took the winter off), I might need to order a new pin and spring.

Monder, first, welcome to the FOG! I've got some info that might be helpful (really Jerry Work does). Check out this thread: Domino location pins.

You're slipping Forrest, Jerry's thread is exactly about stuck Domino pins. [tongue]

Thank you and thanks for the link.
Come to think about it that was exactly what happened to me .I tried to elongate one of the slots after I applied glue.......  I knew that some dust mixed with glue was causing the pin to stay recessed. I remember doing what Jerry did (this happened 3 months ago),  I managed to release it but didn?t manage to get it to the state it was before. I will try to clean it one more time.

I have never been fully happy with the round pins because a) it never seems like their standard offset from the mortise center is quite what I want, and b) they sometimes hang up on the corner of a piece or in a slot on the edge (e.g. for a panel) and pull the Domino off alignment.  I have ordered an MGS (due for delivery tomorrow!  Thanks, Rick, for a marvelous accessory!), which I think will handle all of my concerns.  So, my questions:  how hard is it to remove the pins altogether, and are there reasons why that would be a bad idea?

thanks

It is not hard to remove the pins. Even though, I don't think it is a good idea because you might need them in the future. I use them very often and never had any issue with them. As for the problem I had, I have my self to blame and it has no thing to do with machine design. but overall it is your call.
